Why is nudity in movies so frowned upon?

America: home of weird puritanical values mixed with most of the major top producers of porn in the world. Where it's ok to have people getting shot and killed on TV in the middle of the day, but if a boob is flashed, even by accident, the studio is fined several hundred thousand dollars.

This is not the 80's anymore. There's no titillation (lol) in seeing an actresses breasts for 2 seconds in a movie when chances a sex tape of her blowing some guy for 20 minutes will eventually leak on the internet.

movies today are a lot tamer than they were in the 80's. lots of T&A flicks back then. i just watched one that i totally forgot it had so much sex in it, and this is before women discovered that trimming the bush is a good thing. A R rating in the 80's was soft porn.

That movie is so much win, though, I am sure that if I watched it now, I would shake my head at how stupid it is. However, at the time, it combined the greatest of sex humor, nudity, ridiculous sports competition and the Cold War.

And it has one of my favorite lines of all time:

"You can kiss my ass. Not on zis side and not on zat side, but right in zee meedle!"

In conclusion: Nudity that contributes to family boner time = Bad, Nudity that does not contribute to that = not as big of a deal.

Why are you guys complaining? There's so much porn on the internet. I actually prefer if mainstream movies didn't blatantly use nudity (sex appeal) to sell something that is completely devoid of content.

That said if an equal amount of nude ugly women, old women, fat women or nude men you guys would be crying for the opposite.

And what is the point of a nude sculpture or a painting? What defines "artistic" value? I say let the people decide. There is no need to regulate movies based on nudity alone.

Well first of all a sculpture or painting is an static image of something, if it's a nude then that is the whole point of it, the artistic interpretation of the human form...as for a movie then it's a secondary bit for no real reason usually such as Hallie Berry topless in Swordfish, it was nice to see but served no purpose other than to see...there's a massive difference between the two...and exactly what the hell do you mean by "regulate"? Are you really trying to say "rate" and just want to sensationalize it? Cause from what I can see there's still a shit ton of movies with nudity in them and any adult can see them anytime they want...I could see a child arguing there's not enough nudity in PG movies but seriously any adult can see boobies any time they want...

Honestly though? Both sides of an argument like this are FoS.

On one end you have people screaming "ART!!!" when most artists will admit to liking a good nudie for art or not. Its PRESENTATION is art, but nudity was nudity. In that culture it meant you were ready to tango.

On the other you have people screaming "decency!!!". Again, PoS. I find it more indecent to see a guy evicerate another than to see a couple get down to NC17. But arging that line will bring us back to the era when the Little Rascals was such a group of rab-scallions that you could not know WHAT they would do next!

It is all context that is important. That and the knowledge of the word "gratuitous". Akin to the giggling boobies on Airplane!, there are some times when a bit of flash in the pan is worth it, and other times when it is just to show it for no other reason than showing it.
