And don't forget it comes with a free Episode 3!:ninja:
You mean Episode 3 chapter 1 subsection 1.
And don't forget it comes with a free Episode 3!:ninja:
If you paid attention you will see the purpose of this thread is to discuss WHY the freakin game is 45 dollars.
If you wanna pay 45 bucks for a 3 hour game maybe you should be in the console forum.

Why is Portal 2 $45??!!
Isn't that the trailer?
People will pay $60 dollars for garbage games all day long, but when they get spoiled by a good game (Portal) in a ridiculous package (Orange Box), all of a sudden they become the worlds biggest critic of the sequel. "Woa, $45 dollars for that?! I mean it was the best hours I've spent gaming in years, but I don't know if I'm ready to have another enjoyable gaming experience so soon and for less than the $60 I usually pay"

Some of us simply feel $45 is a bit on the high side, and no, not because we can't afford it. It's just what I feel the game is worth, and others will have their own opinions on what the game is worth, and that's what this thread is all about.
You haven't played Portal 2. How can you know how much it is worth?
All signs point to Portal 2 being much more robust than Portal 1, which a single player campaign 3 or 4 times as long, as well as co-op multiplayer. Surely this is worth some increase in price.
The original was only two hours?
I don't think so, dude. If you power through a game and feel unsatisfied, you have no one to thank but yourself.
I went back and checked, and it took me just under 3 hours to beat, and I was not speeding my way through. That puts estimates for Portal 2 at 9-12 hours, which - IMHO - still isn't very long.
*sigh* Again with the assumptions? So because I don't think Portal 2 is worth $45, I apparently...
Have no job
Am unsatisfied with gaming
Am the world's biggest critic
Anything else? Is it really offending you that someone holds a different opinion on how much a (good) game is worth?
Yes, it definitely merits a higher price. From what I gather the game will be 3 to 4 times longer than the first, which sounds great, but that still puts it at about 8 hours, which isn't very long at all (at least to me). The co-op multiplayer will be a blast I'm sure, and that does add value as well, but all things considered, IMHO I just don't think it's enough to justify the $45 price tag. When it gets down to $30 I'll certainly consider it.
There's no "fail" in voting with your wallet. I think Portal 2 is going to be a fantastic game, however I simply don't think it's worth $45, and Valve is not desperately in need of money - far from it actually - and so I will be buying the game when the price goes down a little.
Why are you blowing a fuse just because some people have a different opinion on how much a game is worth? Just because it's better than the other crap that gets released at that price doesn't mean it isn't overpriced (IMHO) itself.
I'd say about half or more of Portal is just tutorials though. If I really wanted to tally up the time I spent being entertained, or trying to work out a puzzle, rather than having the game walking me through some gaming concepts, I'd put the gametime at less than an hour.I went back and checked, and it took me just under 3 hours to beat, and I was not speeding my way through.

I am in the small group of people that absolutely hated Portal though, it was hardly a game in my opinion. It played out more like a tech demo that would be used to pitch an actual game. So maybe Portal 2 will be that actual game, but Portal to me just felt like going through a glorified version of a boot camp training level.
Not worth $20 maybe, but for free the game is pretty damn enjoyable.
Most of us didn't get it for free.
Anyway looks like the price of Portal 2 is actually going to be $50.
I just made up my mind that I'm going with the PS3 version.
It's essentially $50 at Amazon (-$5 off if you preorder, and $5 amazon credit), and you get a copy of the PC version. While all I really want is the PC version, I think it's a very commendable promotion and I want to support it. I can give the PS3 copy away as a gift or something.
