Why is the ECS Socket A K7S5A SiS® 735 chipset so popular?

It could be the combinations of being the fastest chipset currently available at the least expensive to build/buy one.
Of course, eventually it will be outdated like everything else in this high tech field. In fact, the new chipset from the other manuf. is coming out anytime now. The performance of that one will tell the life expectancy of the Sis 735.

The ECS K7S5 was also rated for good stability and recommended by Anandtech, although it is not really an over-clockers dream board................so the reasons seem to be:

Speeed
Price
Stability
Availibility
Features

And possibly, just the fact that an under-dog product line makes good and deserves a try ..............?

It's good because not only is it fast, but it has built in sound and 10/100 network, yet still has 5 pci slots, 1amr, and 1agp (unlike other integrated boards, there are plenty of slots). All of this for only $65 or so dollars! It supports up to 1.4Ghz so far, and has both PC100/PC133 ram pieces as well as DDR ram! For a non overclocker, this is an excellent value.

Click on "motherboards"............ then on the links below .......... "SiS 735 Chipset"
There are two pages of vendors.

If no luck then search for other clones of this board:
Amptron - AMP 830LM ....... (my local purchase choice)
PCChips - don't know the board # off-hand?

i think rabid dragon is talking about the KT266A. those wont be out until november if i am correct.

Yea,......... me thinks you are correct, upon reflection the KT 266A ------ ('slaps self in forehead'!) dumb, dumb, dumb ......... !!!

By the way, the reason why no major SiS735 boards are out is because SiS is redoing the chip with DDR333 support along with other goodies. Manufacturers like Asus, Abit etc. have put their boards on hold while waiting for the new chip, which is a drop-in replacement.

The new chip is the SiS745. Should be ready once the nforce and kt266a is out.
