why is the fan speed top end restricted?

evga gtx 670,

evga precision fan speed graph has a dotted yellow line on the fan speed curve graph @ the 80% mark and i cannot make the fan speed any higher than that. i've tried to reset it with auto on and auto off.

i have 2 660 ti's and the graph for them is limited to 95%, that does good cooling .
i can live with that, i dont want to buy aftermarket cooling for the 670 just because i cant raise the fan speed, its a 24/7 folder that sits on a open test bench, a 10% raise in fan speed is all that it would take to keep the 670 cool.

so is there a way to up the fan speed?

I can only imagine it's limited because the fans wear out and fail faster with higher speeds. If you want it cooler, I'd duct more outside air to the fan.

You can mod Bios to allow for higher fan speeds, although in my exprience the noise will be awful and cooling about the same between 80% and 100%.

Search for KGB (kepler bios editor or something like that).

I think after about 65% most fans reach quickly diminishing returns. Actually on my 7970 Sapphire OC past 80% the card actually gets hotter.

Set it manually to 80 percent on full load.
