WOW. Just subbed to Digital Foundry. This is why I've stopped reading reviews and moved to Youtube for my game/hardware reviews.. but this is the slickest one I've seen yet. You can't beat this.
Tough to be unfair on this one, though almost every single writeup tried their best.. this shows how close the 980Ti and Fury X really are. Give and take with the Fury X taking the lead when not purposefully trying to tear it down with trash like "Project Cars" or some Batman game.
H said they pick only "new, popular games that are being played", yet they only had 1 game off this list-
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
Which blows their game selections off the MAP when it comes to people playing them. All valid except maybe Football Manager & Clicker Heroes, the rest should be included in EVERY site's benchmarks.
Not to mention no one benches League of Legends which has over 35 million players, while not the most intensive game- we deserve to know if all these high end video cards are worth -anything- to the most popular games on the planet.
Or if you have to hand-select some goofball thing like Project Cars to make it look bad.
Unless I go build a VR rig next year, I'd probably not go higher than a R7 360 for my needs at 1080 with no aa/af, default in-game settings in the competitive games I play. Thinking about that or the R9 280, both seem like an extremely great value for $200 and under. And since I'm at just 1080, they'd do as good or better than my existing hardware.
This is a mature market, and review sites are NOT reflecting that at all. My friends play the games in the Steam top 10, and maybe a few others like Strife or LoL. Games people, millions in fact, actually play.
If it's pointless to buy a 980Ti or Fury X for those games- that needs to be reiterated over, and over again until those games are no longer popular. At least if we believe Kyle Bennett of H. Lot of shilling going on, and AMD needs to get desperate and start setting out review guidelines and start yanking more of these cards from sites that put reviews out like H's. That place has turned into a damn rag.
