Ok how hard can it be to make voting software?

Select your choice, and press done.

After you press done, it uploads the data to a central database, along with which computer, area, and time this took place.

End of day, you print out a tally. Person with most votes wins.

The central database can be changed. Just like you can change a regular ballot. I don't know why everyone is so afraid.

Do you mean online voting or just electronic voting?

As far as I know, electronic voting is replacing punch ballots... at least thats whats happening in California.

if you do that then you have to trust the central data base and the machine your voting on to be counting the vote correctly. I don't see what is so wroung with puting an X in a box on a piece of paper and leting people count the votes.

Because, a couple years ago, the leading electronic vote company's website was left insecure and the source code for the voting program was left wide open for download. Well, it's been downloaded many times and supposedly a few dozen security holes were found.

Electronically (optically) scanned paper ballots are best. Having a reliable paper trail is important, because recounts are very often necessary BY STATE OR LOCAL LAW in close races.
