HL does appeared killed out, complete without ep 3 which was ment to be a 12ish month cycle between the "short games".

The episodic format obviously failed as the content creation costs likely aren't low enough to make relatively short games released more often (which implies a lower price point) very profitable for them.

Counter-Strike: Source just got a sizable update awhile ago. It's not a lolheressomehatsandmodels update ala TF2; it changed the way accuracy works. Pretty long list of changes.

OP is right on Counterstrike and Halflife

Where is a link that shows a new counterstrike is coming that isn't a complete rumor?

Given the latest Counter-Strike update which changed how literally every weapon in the game performs, I'd rather Valve left their catalog titles alone. If someone has been playing a game for 6 years, they're probably not clamoring for a major update that changes everything they know about the game. So, no, I would DEFINITELY prefer Valve abandons their games than turns them into TF2 (which became an unplayable, boring mess the second they started introducing class-specific upgrades).

so?

and thats a very different scenario than abandonment, as you faultily asserted in the OP. quit whining.

A parent has 4 kids, and abandons them. What makes you think having more kids is a good thing?

Valve is not supporting the games it has on the market right now (except tf2), how is producing more games supposed to fix the issue?

The new games are going to be thrown out there, might get a couple of patches, and then the people at valve will back to their favorite child, tf2.

It is worth noting that Valve itself doesn't actually do all that much in the way of creation for the TF2 updates. Much if not most of the content comes either from other developers who use it as promotions for their own games, or from the TF2 community.

Most of those updates are provided ready made for them. Can't be surprised they update as often as they do when so much else is provided to them. Plus there's the question of whether or not they get paid by the other developers for in game promotions. If Square-Enix was offering free assets and likely cash to promote DX:HR in Left4Dead instead, that's where the energy would go.

Anyone that thinks they've "abandoned" Half Life is crazy. There's WAY too much money to be made yet off that franchise for them to walk away from it.

My guess is that they were pretty far in development on Ep3, decided it wasn't up to par, and went back to square one with it. I'd be pretty shocked if we don't hear something about Half Life 3 within the next year.

I read an interview with Gabe where he says he lets the people at Valve work on projects they feel they will be most useful. No point in forcing them to work on something they don't want to since it'll be half-assed in the end.

I guess everybody at Valve is playing TF2. :awe:

Comparing games to children? Yeesh, dude. You just broke my hyperbolemeter into a BILLION PIECES!

They support their games just fine. Go play something else if you don't like 'em. Bitching on the internet? Clearly you have free time... why not use that to play more games?

Wow...most developers stop releasing bug fixes and adding content 6 months after they release a game and you complain about Valve?

this pretty much sums it up for me. Valve supports all their games more than any other developer.

Coming from a guy with a tf2 avatar.

Go play some tf2, your the only one getting any real updates.

I'm actually only playing L4D2 and BF3 these days.

I like a good catch phrase though.

Also, it's: you are -> you're

I don't want to seem mean or rude, but what's the point of this exactly?

We could talk about id Software abandoning DOOM 3? No? Or what about Bethesda Softworks barely fixing their games and letting the community do most of the work through modifications? Oh, what about BioWare releasing only two DLCs for ME1 and releasing perhaps too many for ME2, or what about them abandoning regular updates on the Cerberus Network? Hmmm, let me think (isn't really hard so far), what about Relic abandoning Company of Heroes?

Some exaggeration put aside, can we just look further and realize that it happened regularly before, and continues to happen regularly nowadays? It's not just Valve, and even if the subject wasn't meant to only point at Valve the point still stands, what the heck is the point of discussing game developers seemingly "abandoning" some or most of their games. Heck we might as well talk about SEGA abandoning the hardware market (no please, let's not).

At this point I suspect they are developing a new Engine for HL3. HL2's engine was very good, but is getting real long in the tooth now.

OP is whiny. I swear my Steam client is downloading patches for CS and TF2 regularly, and there's nothing to fix in HL2, and your biggest gripes with L4D are not bugs, they are balance, which is way more gray area and way less cut and dry.

Such as the charger passing through a group of survivors and not hitting a single person?

Such as survivors taking less damage from a charge, then if they would have fallen the same distance?

Such as one hit melee kills on the jockey? A melee to the groin area of a jockey is an instant kill, look it up on youtube.

Such as exploits in dead center map 1 that have not been fixed in 1 year and 11 months?

No, its not "just" balance issues.

and there's nothing to fix in HL2

Have you ever heard of half-life 3, or episode 3?

Instead of working on a new counter-strike, how about finishing the half-life series?

Honestly, I hadn't seen any of the CS:GO stuff. Cool.

I heard nothing but rumors about it being called CS:S2 and nonsense. Still need to make a HL3 or EP3 of HL2 or something for me to stop being completely mad at them though
