<< JellyBaby--the people don't think there is any difference, only the watches do. Without the watches nobody would think any time travel occurred. >>

Is this because a mechanical failure occurred in the watches, or because the time 'travelled' was so small? If the pilots had experienced an hour-long flight but the people on the ground tracked a 4-hour flight, then it would have caused much more excitement.

Time travel is possible, we're all traveling @ the same speed forward in time as you read this.

The black hole thing would work, but you'd be torn to shreds by the gravitational pull (@ least according to Hawking if I remember correctly), so your atoms/subatomic components might travel through time, but you as a complete organism wouldn't live to tell your tale.

The other interesting thing is all the representations of black holes are 2D representations of a 3D phenomenon...

<< that's not really time travel--the pilots didn't end up a few seconds ahead of the people on the ground, time just went relatively faster for them. >>

According to Einstein, the closer you get to moving at the speed of light the faster forward in time you move relative to someone going slower. That's time travel, in my definition but like you (and the Big E.) said it's all relative.

At each moment, each of us exist at the threshold of time, the moment before is the past, the next, the future. Jumping ahead or skipping back through time to exist in a moment that doesn't exist or has already occured is not possible no matter which way you want to think of it.

Theortically, yes, it is possible, but on a similar tanget, theortically, with our understanding of the forces of nature in 1400, most of europe thought the earth was flat.
