Why lack of upgrades for laptops?

I have a P2 300 and I would like to upgrade bus speed, hd, and processor. But it's next to impossible to find upgrades for laptops. I am thinking because so many of them are proprietary structure.

Why don't they make laptop stucture standardized so that we could upgrade them?

You can upgrade HDD and memory most of the time. Thats about all since their is no "standard" laptop layout

Laptop technology changes quickly, and there's no standard form factor like ATX for OEMs to follow.

The company I work for purchased 30 Compaq P100 laptops. They had no cd-roms. (This was prior to me being hired). They're pretty much doorstops now!

Most companies, (If they have 1/2 a brain) will lease them. The processors I believe are soldered on to the mb. Go to any computer shop, most (if any)won't even work on a laptop.

I actually took one of the P120's here at work apart. Some bozo got a piece of plastic jammed where the the removable hard drive was to seat.

Some people really need laptops, but I would never buy one for this reason.

I have taken apart laptops at work after doofuses (or doofii?) have dropped them. They're a bitch to work with, and these were even a few years old so they're quite large by todays standards. I'm sure these days with inch thick or less laptops, things are layed out perfectly so they just barely fit in the case. That by itself makes upgrades difficult if not impossible.

laptops are made for work in mind, so dont require constant upgrades, even the P100 laptop will be enough for most apps. but nothing high end.

They have intergrated parts alot of the time, too.. I've seen some models with soldered on CPU's
