Is this a serious question?

You do know the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee and changed their names to the Tennessee Titans a year or two later, right?

You do know that the AFL Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City and the team was renamed the Kansas City Chiefs, right?

Of course he's serious, a serious retard too.

Because of the sheer number of teams along the Eastern seaboard, Memphis and New Orleans are both "the West" in the NBA, and the Northwestern division covers an area from Minnesota south to Oklahoma and west to the Pacific Ocean, or roughly 40% of the contiguous states by area. So, yeah, geographic conferences can be stupid.

As far as cities with multiple teams in the same league, that only happens in New York, LA and Chicago, and all three of those cities are so large that individual boroughs/suburbs/neighborhoods can be larger than entire cities with teams in that league. Manhattan and Brooklyn both have a larger population than Salt Lake City; why not give them separate teams?

Nah, I'm just fucking with ya, that shit is ridiculous.

Counter argument (to multiple teams = dumb) New York Jets' fans
Case closed.

Can we all agree that the Pelicans have the absolute worst US Big-3 team name of all time? I seriously thought it was a joke.

...And the Titans used to be the Titans of New York, which changed their name to the Jets around '63.

I'm a Titans fan, so I totally support the move of the Oilers to TN. I don't particularly like the Texans either and it's cool that a rivalry was born out of the move (since the Texans and Titans are both AFC South Teams).

I'm glad Bud Adams was able to get a stadium since the Astrodome was such a terrible venue for Football. The new stadium in Nashville is pretty nice and it has a nice view of downtown from the visitor's side.

The Baltimore Ravens used to be the Cleveland Browns.

It's easy enough to change a team name.

Yeah, there had to be far better names out there. Who the hell fears a Pelican?

Because Heat, Magic, Wizards, Spurs, Lakers, Nuggets, Thunder, Rockets, 76ers, Nets, Knicks, Pistons, Mavericks, Trailblazers, etc all induce fear.

NBA team names are generally terrible when you take out that they have been traditional.

For the record, I did not want Pelicans. I wanted the Krewe of New Orleans.

Every single name you listed was, at the very least, leagues above the Pelicans.

Most of the names have something to do with the city (except those that moves, obviously).

Bunch of socialists using public money for things like that.

Generally, it works like an interest free loan for the teams. The city puts up X number of millions and a contract the team has to pay so much per year for the next Y number of years. Plus, it creates jobs (not just construction, but stadium staffing and such). And, the stadiums can be used for other things besides sports teams.

change the name like the Oilers did?

If I were the owner, and Houston pissed me off, I'd keep the name the Texans just to piss off Texas! The New York Texans! And, I'd get a new mascot to be as stereotypical of a redneck as possible.

The Titans were previously the Oilers.

This is not a difficult concept to understand.

Wait...What?

The government pays for stadiums for private teams over there?

yup, they raise taxes, like Denver did when the Broncos said build us a new stadium or we are moving to another city and to show they were serious they took out the "D" in the Bronco Logo. so the city of denver said NOOOOOOOOO you cant leave and imposed a tax to help pay for the stadium.
