Why no 266a roundup on Anand's?

Yes, I know it was promised months ago, but still nothing and it's 2002! Instead we get reviews of consoles, "phoneline networking", and now a VIA P4 motherboard roundup! WTF?

Everybody on these forums is going crazy trying to decide on a 266a motherboard--one look around and you can see it is easily the number 1 hardware question on these boards. People need more than anecdotal reports to make decent decisions on a critical component. And yes, i know there have been a few roundups on some other sites, but they pretty much all suck IMO. This includes Tom's, so please don't tell me to go read that...

Anandtech has totally dropped the ball on this one. It's already too late as most people have taken a leap of faith and purchased a board despite having all the info they would like. My opinion of anand's site as 'cutting edge' has changed quite a bit as a result. Could somebody at least fill us in as to *why* Anand chose not to do a very badly needed roundup?

The conspricy theorist in me says that Intel has paid Anand off Since there has been 18 intel boards reviewed in the last two months and 0 AMD ones. However, I am going to have to doubt that. Why no 266a round up, besides the 3 EARLY release boards, AT staff will have to answer that.

Yeah, I have to agree it does seem strange that we have not had a 266a motherboard review. I'm getting sick of waiting.

This whole thing is starting to smell fishy if you ask me. Clearly they have been in possession of these boards for quite some time, yet have deliberately chosen not to review them. Hmmmm... And not even any mention of why there is a delay. I wonder if there were some "incentives" to review the P4 boards only....

Well now that the sis745 are showing up on newegg, maybe its time for a 745 roundup as well ;-). As I am sure Abit, ECS, and a few others could have ready to be shipped designs in Anand's hands in the next week or two. Or am I getting ahead of the game here?

anand must realize that the epox 8kha+ board is the best kt266a board and no other board will contend with it. that's the reason for the absence of the kt266a roundup.














just kidding but honesty though, i would like to see this too. i would like another kt266a board for my next build, and want to see which ones would work for me. c'mon anand, we are still wating for it!

I think Anand&co really like Intel/P4 more than AMD/Athlon, judging from their articles. It is not that Anand is bias in his review/roundup or anything like that. I am sure that they are fair and objective. Perhap it is just a matter of personal preference.

Or perhap intel is actually doing better than some of us thought. Besides their one mistake with Athlon, they are recovering pretty well. After all, P4 2.2Ghz is actually a 200Mhz increase from P4 2Ghz. It could be a turning point for Intel to send AMD back to where it used to be. You know, that time very moment that all o/cers and users decided that AMD Athlon/Duron is more fun to have than the mighty intel P2/P3.

What if AMD is not able to achieve the 1.3 micron process? What if kt266a is the last of VIA's best? Will we ever see a FSB of 333 or 466?

I am new here, so I could be wrong.

I hate to say it, but I've gone elsewhere for reviews, Anand's front site has been lacking the reviews a good hardware site should have recently (almost year, IMHO).

I don't think AMD will ever go to the 1.3 micron process, it's wayyyyy to large, now .13 micron should happen within this quarter or next, with large shipments the following quarter.

I hear you on that one! I'm just having a hard time finding good quality, trusting sites. But in defense of Anand he is doing the whole college bit but what about his other helpers?

Anandtech used to be the first/best place to get new info, but lately I have search Hardware Avenue. Unfortnately this place is still on hollyday.

The bottomline is I miss the "k266A mb shoot out" article, Anandtech-style.

Yea!, sure, Intel is counting in with the posibility that AMD can't reach the 0.13 micron process, but if they finaly do, OOOOhh BOY!!!, get ready to see the new Athlon 5 and the Pentium 4 northcrap would have to go strait to 2.8Gz
