Why no dedicated push to talk on keyboard t

Instead of flashy things that not every one needs or wants why can't we get a dedicated push to talk key on the keyboard. We can then bind this to a mouse button for on the fly comms. So many times we bind communications to other keys or key strokes and it breaks the game immersion by making us couch or type random key strokes.

This would appeal to not only gamers, but video streamers as well. We have so many windows and programs open at once, it's not easy to find a key bind that does not affect something else.

Please Logitech, Corsair, and anyone else that has a keyboard line. Give us a dedicated push to talk key in a usable position for a FPS player.

I would think that a push-to-talk foot pedal would fill that niche. It looks like there was even a World of Warcraft pedal marketed for a while.

Transcribers have been using foot controls forever.

Not sure what game you are playing, but if they don't allow you to bind the P2T key to any key or any mouse button, they are the ones that should be correcting things.

A. Any dedicated chat program allows you to bind P2T to a mouse button. Why doesn't the game you're playing?
B. Not everyone wants their P2T key to be in the same place. Having it programmable to any key, or mouse button is ideal.

They sell keyboards with programmable buttons. I believe you can even buy custom button controllers just for programming whatever.

Everything out now has macro keys that require a key stroke binding. What happens is when you have multiple programs open, many times you get overlapping bindings.

Since I'm left handed (use mouse on left hand and right hand on arrow keys/num keypad) I map DEL for mic chat in most games and on a side note I map the menu button (between right CTRL and Win key) to spot in some games like Battlefield 4 and Planetside 2... I'm whacky that way.

But yeah would be nice if there were special separate keys such as some keyboards with media and email/web/calculator keys and a special one for communication.

There are many ways to remap keys. Consider getting rid of your capslock and making it your PTT button.

The reason that there isn't a dedicated 'push-to-talk' key on most keyboards is because there isn't a standard scancode for such a key in the USB HID standard.

If Corsair or Logitech made such a key on their keyboards, then they would have to bind it to another unused key's scancode (for example they could bind it to on of the F13-F24) and there would be almost zero support for it in games.

This is actually pretty novel idea. I never really thought about doing this before. PTT on the floor, no immersion issues and no clumsy key config.

I have a foot pedal for transcription and I've used it for push-to-talk in games, specifically for raiding in WoW. It's definitely pretty ideal for that. I also tried using the foot pedal as extra hotkeys but trying to coordinate the keyboard and the foot pedal together was way harder in practice than in theory.

The one annoying thing with foot pedals is a lot of games, i.e. dark souls 3, force you to disconnect the pedal for the xbox controller to function.
