Why not make it impossible to operate a car while intoxicated?

I've had my blow and go installed for a few days now and I don't think it would be bad for all cars to have them. It takes an extra ten seconds before you take off but wouldn't that be worth saving thousands of lives a year? It would also do away with not knowing your bac like things are now.

It would get my vote for sure

Then someone will complain about unnecessary costs; they would have a point.

Big brother. Next, I would have to eat my veggies.

Edit: The assumption is that people are following the law until they don't.

Drinking beer at your summer party, need to get the lawnmower out of the garage. You call your 3 year old, because your car won't work due to government intrusion....

"Hey, kid. How about a little blow in my car."

Sure to attract some unwanted attention.

Is this like the fox who bites off his own tail to escape a trap and then tries to convince all the other foxes not having a tail is great and they should all bite off their's.

I will not be punished because people like you can't follow the fucking laws. This is like a DRM problem in real life... a PITA for legitamite users to compensate for the few poor excuses for human life.

Yeah it would be overstepping, but it could be mandatory for any car registered to someone with a DUI charge.

I know I'm gonna install one on my own cars once my kids get to driving age

Instead can we pass a law that DUI offenders automatically lose the right to vote?

this has been debated heavily in many drunk driving threads. Logically it is a safety feature that would instantly save 10's of thousands of lives. However there are others that get butt hurt by the idea that safety features trample their rights. So we will just continue to fail miserably in trying to legislate a problem away that has an easy technological solution. America fuck ya.

How about just use some common sense instead? Don't drink and drive; simple concept. Technology not needed.

It's costly, adds another little device in the car, would either be easy to break/fuck up the car, or easy to bypass, easy to cheat by getting someone else to use it, and totally unnecessary for the vast majority of drivers.

It pretty much is at this point. I don't know anybody who had a DUI that didn't get a judge mandated breathalyzer ignition. However I don't know that many who have DUIs, so it's pretty much just 3 for 3 at this point.

maybe where you are. Even still that is a reactive measure. lives could have already been destroyed by the drunk driver at the point they have to get a blow n go installed.
