Also, for those using cancer as an example, not every who gets cancer lived an unhealthy life style. I can't imagine a greater misconception. It can strike anyone, anytime.

No one is promising $1200 (a year) health insurance.

I'm pretty sure Patranus claimed that he knew of a way that everyone could have insurance for $89 a month in this thread, however we've got a few UHC threads going on right now and it's possible I replied to the wrong one.

Do you want to know why this car insurance analogy falls apart? Because when you get sick, you don't go shopping around for the best deal.

Honestly, I don't want "free" insurance. It doesn't exist.

I want equal access. I want discrimination against my wife and I to end because we had a spot of bad luck. I want my insurance to be portable, to make sure that I can keep it all the time and not worry about losing it if something happens with our jobs. I want more electronic records, so that I know no matter what doctor I see, they will know my health history. I also want it so that we can get billing straight, and so that I don't have debt collectors coming after me 2 years after completing treatment to pay a $1000 bill that I never received while I was in the hospital. I want some efforts made to reign in the ridiculous practices of the insurance industry, as they have consistently shown that they care more about making a profit than they do about their customer's health. I want it to be affordable, I shouldn't have to choose between paying for my student loans, healthcare, food, and rent.

90% of health insurance in this country is controlled by FOUR companies. It's an oligarchy, and I want some damn competition restored to the system. Whether it's via co-ops or a government option, I could give a damn.
