Why not use air drops in LA & MS?

So I have to wonder there is so much desperation for food and water in New Orleans why doesn't the military run a few C130s over the area and simply drop supplies? Of course they are trying to get them out but that would help a lot of people right now instead waitting for a bus.

Because the warlords would overtake the supplies and use them for themselves.

And if one landed on a person, then everyone would be wondering why they were dumb enough to use air drops and complain that it was unsafe to do so.

That's one of my thought also. They could of drop food and water from air. It doesn't solve the whole problem, but atleast people doesn't need to starve to death.

How can you be sure it won't land in the water and be unable to get to it? Most of the dry places have truck access it seems.

let's say one of these poor people did have a gun it sure as heck wouldn't be a sniper rifle - give me a break. don't believe everything your hear son.

in a situation like this there will always be idiots that do stupid things but it has never stopped our rescue efforts before - nor was it ever reported!

all these people dying and all the media can come up with is teenagers looting and some idiot (if it even happened) shooting his pellet gun at a helicopter? PLEASE - TOTAL BS!

That may be true but MREs (Meals ready to eat) and bottle water are sealed and will still be fine if it gets a little wet. And if they were smart they fly a helicopter over with a loudspeaker telling citizens to watch out for supplies and pick them up.

thats why.

there is NO SOCIAL FABRIC whatsoever in there..we cant just drop off aid and expect people to be organized and distribute the aid peacefully.

there sooo needs to be a military presence there, its going on 5 days...and still nothing.

no military plan, nothing.

a horrible blackmark this will be on this administration once it is all said and done.

If water is so desparate (food can wait) just blanket the place with 1 gallon jugs of water with mini parachutes and floaters.

I don't know how to swim, so that wouldn't help me. But it may be an option.

actually air drops can land in water and wont be exposed to it at all. i remember seeing them hit the river by my house in western kazakhstan and when they pulled em ashore they were fine. i mean they are made to with stand the drop and water it not like they are dropped in wooden creats on unstable death
edit: but that was in 92' when i was 5 but thats what my parents tell me too so i guess thats true.

So you're saying that nobody is shooting at anyone, then? Since a cop has been shot in the head, I don't think you're really up on the news.

For the record, a "sniper rifle" isn't its own deal - I could slap an airgun scope on my Ruger target rifle, and the media would say it's a sniper rifle.
