Sleeping in a poor country makes someone a rape target? WTF kind of logic is that?!?

Maybe he just read Fifty Shades of Grey. Around page 55, Ana thinks Chris might not be interested in her because he chose not to rape her while she was drunk. Yes, the book actually says that. It reminds me of that song by JT Money where he says "the way you show me your love is by the way you rape me"

btw, the best and worst G20 countries for women. India is dead last.

I'm just curious if you read a physical copy or a kindle/e-book version.

I stole that criticism from online reviews of the book; I didn't actually read the book myself. My gf got the book from the library yesterday, and sure enough, that really is in the book, but it wasn't on that page. In the paper copy, it was a few page away from 55, so try page 60 or so.

sleeping out in the open in a poor and populated area makes you a robbery target, if you're from a rich country.
Robbers are violent.
India is known for failing to imprison rapists or even just getting the rapes reported to the police -> no disincentive to rape.

Why would these psychos not rape her after they already beat the shit out of them and robbed them of their stuff? They're still going to prison if they get caught. Also they probably don't think rationally about it, group dynamics and hormones etc. during a crime there's andrenaline and stuff.

Also this kind of stuff happens in rich countries too but there is this thing called certainity and swiftness of penalty that acts as disincentive.
You can kill everyone who commits a crime, that won't stop the crime. Look at the US and death penalty. Beccaria understood this in 1764.
A good read if you're interested about the theme: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/An_Essay_on_Crimes_and_Punishments

So what I mean is that the fact that the prison term gets longer if they also rape doesn't matter to criminals because that's not the risk they perceive, so they will rape if the situation makes it easy (a couple all alone in the bush), provided that they are without values or the culture they're in doesn't condemn rape enough (which really is a problem if there are groups this big).

So according to this logic, don't get in dangerous situations in the first place. Camping in bad areas is just too exposed.

Doesn't India have some of the least attractive women in the world? I'm guessing it's mostly because they're poor as fuck. They don't own toilets, so they shit in bags, and they can't afford modern beauty care products like razors or wax. Imagine going to a country where women have furry legs, mustaches, and dirty asses.

At least some of them have white teeth.

How old are you?
Have you been outside of the US?
Do you still living in your mom's basement?

That said, there are attractive and unattractive people in every country. And, IMHO Indians do have some of the most beautiful people in the world.

IMHO, US population has to be one of the most unattractive people since it is 3rd fattest country in the world after Micronesia, Tonga, and before Samoa.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/ea...lds-fattest-countries-how-do-you-compare.html

And while the US makes up only five per cent of the world's population, it accounts for almost a third of the world’s weight due to obesity.
In comparison, Asia has 61 per cent of the world’s people but only 13 per cent of the world’s weight.

Here is a "fat" American chick you would love to plow

Here is an indian woman decked in traditional bling bling with optional shiny bling and more bling. The point is to blind you so you don't notice the mustache when you get closer.

To be fair I bet if you ranked the best and worst G20 countries for men, India would also be dead last.

True, but comparing the status of men vs women is more telling about the overall condition of the country.

One could argue that the status of women compared to men is a good indication of how effective the government is in that particular country. Women are not idiots, so they would vote for their own rights if the issue came up during an election. Whomever advocates more equal rights for women would automatically win because they would get 100% of the female vote and some of the male vote as well. If a country doesn't have equal rights, that would indicate the country is horribly broken in terms of democracy and overall government effectiveness.
-lack of equal rights laws would mean there is a lack of democracy
-lack of enforcement of said laws indicates ineffective government

Knowing about India's weird problem of gang rape, what does that tell you about the condition of the country? People are not afraid of the police. They can pull shit like that in broad day light and get away with it. What else can they get away with? Can they cut your throat and jack your stuff? I wouldn't be shocked if they could.

world travel is overrated
I use to say the same till I was 17 and after went across Canada with my soccer team, then it snowball from there. I now try to travel at least once a year.

IMHO, life is too short to just work and accumulate earthly possessions.

Once again, people like to single out other countries and other people. Always point fingers at the other guy and accuse him/her/them for their behavior. Why not fix yourself first and try to make your block/neighborhood/city/state/country better?

After all, when you (including myself) have such a bad attitude and a way of living, we should never point fingers at anyone but ourselves.

As for India, it is such a huge country with so many variations and cultures. Unlike China, the government doesn't sweep all the messiness under the rug or try to suppress it with brutal force. I'm sure if the Indian government wanted to, they could sweep the poor people aside and make their major cities look cleaner (for the sake of it).

Another factor is this whole BS about modernizing and adopting Western influences. Ever since India has been copying the West, it has lost everything. The Western approach India has been adopting has not worked, period. What works in the West needs to stay in the West. India needs to do what works in India. Unfortunately, the whole world wants to Westernize at the expense of everything. Some, like China, do it in a forceful and brutal way. Others, like India, do it in a gradual way but do not care to present a certain image to the world. The world thrives on images.

When you watch an Indian movie, you see them talking half English and half in Hindi. It is really weird to watch. The action scenes and all the overt sexuality are adopted from the West. Heck, Bollywood is a direct copy of Hollywood. At least the older Indian movies had some cultural aspect that actually belonged to India. (Sorry to throw in some extra stuff but it shows a deterioration of a country. India, from what I've seen, is confused. It wants to preserve its ancient culture yet adopt the Western culture. It is a truly confused country.)

Have to disagree. While I would not do as this couple did (camping out, especially with a female in tow) in a developing country or anywhere else, I love to travel and travel to different countries at least once a year.

As a matter of fact, I was in a few countries in Asia/Pacific rim area not just a few months ago and had a blast (except my wallet/bank account ).

Seriously people, take your vacations in non-shithole countries.

I agree, Mexico being one of those shithole countries.

I don't understand the such and such have hot women, every fucking place has hot women, you don't need to go half way around the globe to find one.

South Korea is below Argentina. Which country do you think is safer?

Hell, Japan is 7th, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just about the safest coutry.

Knowing about India's weird problem of gang rape, what does that tell you about the condition of the country? People are not afraid of the police. What weird problem of gang rape?

The only reason there is a weird problem is because the media has decided that if a man and woman are assaulted only the assault on the woman matters.

In fact from the article
A Swiss couple was camping near a forest in India's Datia district when a group of men beat the husband and raped his wife, the district's deputy superintendent of police, R.S. Prajapati, told CNN. There were between five and seven attackers, he said.

The couple arrived in Mumbai on February 3 and were on a cycling tour across the country, said D.K. Arya, deputy inspector general of police.

The attackers stole a laptop, 10,000 rupees (US $185) and a mobile phone, he said. The victims went to police and the woman was hospitalized and later released.

India has a crime problem. Not a violence against women problem.

I agree, but having seen my share of the third world I've decided I will never set foot in India or sub-Saharan Africa again unless an employer is paying me a substantial amount of money to do so. There are too many nice places to visit for me to waste time and money in squalid shit holes.

heavily processed HDR photos aren't really that convincing...

Yes clearly the fact that someone over processed some photos means that there is nothing interesting to see in India and you should stay in your basement.

The only people who will defend that shithole of a country is an Indian.

As I work in Silicon Valley -I've heard the horror stories and the #1 goal of every Indian is to GTFO and move to someplace nice like 'Murica, UK, Dubai, NZ.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/17/world/asia/india-open-toilets-udas

it's posts like this that demonstrate the asshats in this thread. india has a lot to work on, but calling it a shithole is ridiculous.

the other posts in this thread were informative and interesting.
