Why on earth do you Amazon?

I compare the prices between Amazon and eBay and often times I get a better deal at eBay with free shipping or the product is cheaper. Take for example my recent purchase. I was looking at American flags that are made by Valley Forge on Amazon. I was going to pull the trigger on one. Stuck it in my basket and the total cost was around 29 bucks! I said screw that! Went to eBay and found the same damn thing for $18.95 and free shipping!

There are some things on Amazon that eBay doesn't have, but more times than not I buy from eBay. And I get rewarded with eBay bucks. Keep in mind I don't pay monthly for no Prime crap to get free shipping on eBay.

I got screwed on a couple of deals on E-bay almost 15 years ago. Their various "buyer protection policies" didn't help me in the slightest. I haven't bought there since.
At least Amazon (generally) takes care of buyers who get taken by unscrupulous sellers. E-Bay could care less...as long as they get their fees.

Not so anymore. They protect the buyer more than the seller and PayPal now offers you a virtual 6 month warranty. By that I mean you can file a claim within 6 moths. Pissed a bunch of people off.

I don't use ebay for jack shit really. I think the last thing I bought on there was a wifi card for a Hackintosh that was compatible with my Dell and OSX. But I bought it there because nowhere else sold the chip set and it came straight from China and took like 3 weeks to get here. I use Amazon like 2-3 times a week.

Because amazon service is best in the business. Ebay is about the worst. Amazon gets me things same day vs most eBay your lucky to see things same month.

That's basically what it boils down to for me as well. Amazon is largely legit, returns are effortless, Prime shipping, and movies.

It's made me lazy to the point where I order random stuff like trash bags with free shipping just because I don't want to go to the store, because why not

I buy more on Ebay than anywhere else. For one thing, newegg sells cheaper there than on their own site at times.

As far as buyer protection goes, I just had Ebay find in favor of a buyer on a Windows tablet that I used every day for the last 18 months, including to create the Ebay ad. Grabbed my sale proceeds from another auction and said they were going to refund upon proof the buyer sends me a package. Might have a can of beans in it, but he'll get his money plus shipping because he said the laptop won't hold a charge. (and I have 600+-0-0 feedback, LOL)

I think Ebay pretty much always finds in buyers favor.

Certain things Amazon is better than eBay and vice versa. Both have scammers so you just have to be careful and use good judgement. I like both but I probably only spend $2k-$3k a year on Amazon. Prime shipping is super convenient. I spend about $40k-$50k a year on eBay. I never sold anything on eBay. I only use it to buy. I rarely buy from individual small sellers unless it's unique item and stick with big large companies with 99%+ feedback. eBay Bucks is super cool. I max out the $500 quarterly bonus every quarter and get back $2,000 a year from eBay. I just got another $500 eBay Bucks certificate yesterday. eBay used to offer discounted eBay gift cards all the time when it had the PayPal cash cow but since they separated, the discounted gift cards are no longer available. Plus now there are so many restrictions on eBay gift cards I would never buy it even at a discount. Most sellers I buy from ship fast. They usually ship the same day or next with free shipping.

I tend to shop between Ebay and Amazon, and basically only when what I want I can't buy at a real retailer. Or if I just want something super cheap and don't care too much about quality. You can get ridiculously cheap electronic parts for example. They are probably rip offs of whatever it is they say they are, but they might work for someone like me that's just messing around, but I would not put them in a product that I'm selling.

I had a bag of mosfets show up in the mail the other day. Some Amazon orders can take months, so I tend to lose track lol.

Amazon will have some half decent "normal" quality stuff too, perhaps stuff that I simply can't find in town, but typically for housewares I just buy locally.

For me, ebay tends to be oddball, outdated, etc sort of items. Most recent purchases - j-hooks for low voltage cabling, an old Ohio Art checkers/chinese-checkers tin game set (the old circular tin style), some Unifi POE and mounting accessories, a whole pile of Lumia screws, some WoWS codes, etc.

Amazon gets many purchases, though I also check prices elsewhere and/or camelcamelcamel.

I bought a $350 Roomba on ebay a few months back. It was cheaper than Amazon by a fair amount and the only reason I went to ebay (first time in a long time). So I had to do a lot of homework as to why it was cheaper and I had to weigh the pros and cons of taking the risk and not having much recourse for a return. Also what happens if it fails to work after 10 days?

Turns out it was being sold by someone who bought it as a bundle from Kohl's and resold it (still new). But at least it's been working fine.

None of these worries exist when buying with Amazon. You get it guaranteed new, you get it fast, you get it with customer service that back you QUICKLY, and you get it with free return shipping should anything go wrong (instead of haggling with a random seller). So the question was why not ebay - it's much easier and less hassle to buy from Amazon. The 2 day shipping on Amazon also makes for more purchase decisions.

Yeah with Ebay I only buy if I'm ready to deal with not being able to return the item. I've bought a couple big ticket items and just accepted the risk, but I avoid it.

Bought a rackmount KVM console once because it was a super good deal. $200 vs $2,000, sometimes they go for even more. I don't know why they're so expensive. But anyway it came in and the PSU was blown in it. Contacted the seller and thankfully he agreed to refund me and told me to keep it. I don't even recall what I did with it... I should have tried to fix it. Or maybe I did send it back but he paid shipping, I really don't remember. But either way with Ebay it's hit and miss as you may get a seller who is a scammer etc.

Ali Express > eBay > Amazon.
I use all three. Ali Express is cheap and slow and Amazon is expensive and fast. eBay is, well, eBay.

As for buyer protection on eBay, about a year ago eBay switched to "the buyer is never wrong."
I once had a seller that refused to ship even though she was paid. I got all my money back and she was banned - no questions asked. EBay saw what was going on and handled the whole thing.

Getting stuff within a day or two is worth Amazon Prime itself. Then add-in their customer service, streaming, etc...

Oh, looking to purchase a new tempered glass computer case. Could get it cheaper on Newegg with no sales tax partially negated by $10 shipping. With Amazon, I can get it in two days and if there are any issues, I can easily get a replacement.

Depends on the product. You just have to make sure Amazon or eBay reseller you're buying from is authorized distributor. As long as you're buying from authorized seller, it doesn't matter since you'll be dealing with the product company and not the seller for warranty claims.

LOL this is so true. Sure it takes 2 minutes to break it down and put it in the recycling, but I tell myself "what if I need to return it, or what if I want to ship something out to someone, I'd hate to pay for a box when I had some I got rid of, I better keep them".

I think people overstate online issues. I've never had issues with Ebay (and I've 1000's of transactions since 1996 both buying and selling) or Amazon, but I agree, Amazon is not the cheapest on many things. I price compare and go to whoever can get it to me cheapest. Now that Amazon pays taxes, it is much less them unless they are the only one who carries. it.

Unlike many here, I'm not worried about getting things as soon as I order them. If I wanted to do that, I'd just buy it local. Old school mentality I guess. I will say that over time if you really are doing your day to day shopping there, the convenience fee isn't healthy.

Someone mentioned clothes. The number of times my wife has been burned by buying clothes online is insane. I tell her to stop but she continues to do it. I rarely buy clothes other than cheap t-shirts online for this reason. I like to try them on.
