Amazon is targeting automotive parts as the next market they want to dominate. So auto parts are typically cheaper on Amazon than anywhere as Amazon is subsidizing the cost in order to kill the competition. Once Amazon achieves dominance, they will raise prices like they've done for every other category.I am getting more and more stuff from amazon these days, even things I would have typically shopped for locally. For example, I bought a new pickup recently and wanted to get a few items for it. The dual fuel filters that it takes were quoted from $145-160 locally, but on amazon with prime shipping they were $77 for the pair. Ebay was a tad more expensive at about $88 shipped - but it wasn't prime, and the seller doesnt offer returns.
Same for tires, I was able to get a set of BFG KO2 all terrain tires, normally about $300 a tire in the size for this new diesel, except amazon had them for $207 shipped with prime shipping. Ebay was close at $227 per tire shipped, but amazon still beat them.
I always shop around, but with items that have prime shipping and easy returns, Amazon usually comes out on top most of the time.

Sellers on eBay will say on their listing if they're authorized reseller. Amazon rarely discloses. Just like Amazon is not always the cheapest, Amazon is not always authorized seller. You have to check with the vendor product to confirm whether you're buying from eBay or Amazon. But at any rate, I'm quite confident that Amazon is more likely to be an authorized reseller of Widgets, if you buy it on ebay you are more likely to find non-authorized sellers, and have to put in your own legwork to find out if the seller is authorized.
I got screwed on a couple of deals on E-bay almost 15 years ago. Their various "buyer protection policies" didn't help me in the slightest. I haven't bought there since.
At least Amazon (generally) takes care of buyers who get taken by unscrupulous sellers. E-Bay could care less...as long as they get their fees.
