I've not heard anything about Gump on DVD, and I really can't think of any reason why they'd hold out on it like that. Really sucks, as it's one of my fav movies of all time too. I'd pay $40 for a Criterion Edition of it.
Here's a few cuts about other stuff mentioned above...
From Nov issue of Wired:
<< A Lucasfilm spokesperson told Wired, "Absolutely [the campaign made an impact]! We're listening, and George is listening."
But don't rush to celebrate just yet. A spokeswoman for Lucasfilm tells Mr. Showbiz that there is as yet no release date for the Menace DVD. She did confirm that one will be forthcoming ? just not this year.
A DVD edition will have to wait until Lucas has some free time to oversee the project ? and time is a commodity the director is very short on until the next film is in the can. >>
So, looks like we won't be getting TPM or any Lucas DVDs until the next film is released because he wants to personally oversee all the projects. Talk about micro-management.
This next quote is from the May issue:
<< another DVD holdout, Steven Spielberg, decided to release his coveted Universal library of hit movies on DVD, starting with Jaws.
Universal Home Video will release a special 25th anniversary collectors' edition of the 1975 sharkfest July 11. It will include deleted scenes, outtakes, a trivia game, and a new digital widescreen view.
The rest of the hits Spielberg made for Universal, including E.T. and Jurassic Park, are expected to be introduced later, Variety reports. There are no current plans to release the Indiana Jones Trilogy, which was made for Paramount. >>
I'll bet Spielberg and Paramount are at odds over the rights to Indy and they can't come to terms about a DVD release. Sad thing is, we're the ones that have to suffer.
