Why Plextors so expensive???

Anyone know what's the differents?? Additional functions??Or something else??

The main reason is that they used to make quality burners. As of late, it's hit or miss. However, I've only ever owned Plextor burners from when they only made CDR burners. I have a 716SA and a 716AL for my work computer. Plextor FTW!

Yep. Plextor is still good, just pricey compared to the competition. Then again, they do make SATA burners...

I've had great luck with Plextor drives. my 5 or 6 year old Plextor cd-burner is still going strong. but i would rather buy a nec dvd+rw drive at the moment because its less than half the price of the Plextor model. i also have a nec dvd burner in my pc right now, its been good.

plextor makes some of the best drives on the market

They are to pricey. You can get an equally performing drive for half the cost. Unless you want an sata optical, no reason to pick a plextor over a benq.

SATA optical drives are cool but the Plextor's SATA burner review are not very good. Seems like there is a SATA bridge/convertor simply attached to the IDE port and is quite buggy.

It will take something really whoop@ss for me too switch from Plextor. My PX-712A can burn some 4x discs at 8x, some 8x at 12x. Writing and reading is always free of significant errors. Quiet mode is an option too. Plextools is the bomb.

I have yet to burn a bad disc with my plextor cd or dvd. My old Liteon....well i try not tothink negitive thoughs.

I have heard of people flashing their burners with Plextor firmware for a free upgrade.

The latest Plextor, the 740A is based on the same technology as the Benq 1640 (if not actually OEMed from Benq) and it is pretty reasonably priced for a retail pack. Plextor is among the few brands that get 9 or 10/10 reviews on a consisten basis. The 712A which I have got 10s from quite a few reviewers - and deserved it. The 716AL is the only slot-load DVD burner available for desktops. When you have "the only" of something, you can ask a premium price. Even the 716A after a few teething pains is showing itself to be an excellent unit.
. And they tend to hold up pretty well too - but it's a little early to know about this new crop.

Sony is still riding on the name - they haven't made their own drives for some time. They were OEMed from LiteOn for quite a while. The latest models are from Benq.
