Say what you will about Michael Savage, he is one knowledgable guy with various certificates. He owns clowns like O'Reilly and Limbaugh. And best of all, he is not some Republican sheep with a mouth. I used to listen to him on WABC, but have not had the time to do so in the past 6 months or so. Savage sometimes makes my blood boil, he is that extreme and hateful at times. But overall, he is very clever and if you listen to his message rather than the emotional tirades, he is not that far off.

You are simply trying to silence one side while ignoring the same level of extremism on your side. The leftist websites also have their books that they promote.

To me the most interesting part of this thread is being reminded of how right wing people back then were still trying to equate Fox with mainstream media.

We shouldn’t forget that for at least the first half of Fox’s existence conservatives insisted it was either unbiased or at worst just the other side of the mainstream media. Now of course, nearly $1 billion in defamation judgements later people have come to admit that was all lies and that Fox was a right wing ideological outfit from the start but they spent years insisting we pretend to believe the opposite.

I think what this thread shows is that the brainwashing by right wing media has been happening for a long time. It appears to have happened before 2005. So was it Fox News or rush Limbaugh or were there already a whole host of right wing speakers and eco system already established by this time?

Anecdotally, I personally witnessed a change in people’s behavior and a shift politically to the right sometime in 2003. At the time I attributed it to the trauma of 9/11 and the ultra patriotism/nationalism that followed.

I think Rush basically pioneered the right wing/Fox model as we know it where the goal was much more about owning the libs than it was about policy or whatever else. He started that shit back in like 1990 - I feel like by 2003 there was a robust right wing crazy ecosystem in place.

Exactly the whole new world order with the UN taking away your rights and the government coming to take your guns thing was fully in motion during the Clinton administration.

Rush, other talk radio outlets, and the spread of the internet made it much easier for people to find and consume those ideas and then have their feelings reinforced.
