Why Private Messages?

This entire PM business seems rather pointless. How are they better than Email...infact, I would say that they are much more of a hassle. Please LMK if I'm missing something.

If I'm at work, I don't have access to Outlook at home which has my accounts. I also can't use Outlook Express here to connect to any mail servers because of my work's proxy settings. If I'm finishing a deal or continuing a serious conversation, PM's work nicely.

they're way better and quicker than email.. its like saying "why do people use AIM instead of just emailing"
PM"s are a lot more similar instant messenges. ANd not everybody has their profile enabled, so you dont always know the email adress of the other person.

you guys have to admit that its also a big hassle. No subject header. Also quite slow. And AT servers aren't the most reliable. The big pain i've found for selling and trading is that people will often forget to reference the previous message...and without subject, or copy...you have to dig through the history.

The fact that you have to actually refresh the website makes it very different from AIM. Its not instantaneous.

I think its just the geeks in all of us especially those at AT who enjoy running their own server...not that there's anything wrong with that , afterall, I run my own exchange server for 2 people.

pms are great cause you know whether the person is online or not.

You click a button, type your message, and click Send. It's easier and more convenient than email if you want to send a quick msg to someone on this board.

PMs aren't slow at all for me. become a subscriber and you won't have that problem.

It's not a hassle - it's anything but. And I'd like you to email every single person in this thread with ease. Can't do it huh? Can't find their emails without looking in their profile, copying, opening your email program, pasting, typing in a header, then the subject, then sending, and then waiting an eternity for them to get back to you, if they even check that email address. That's a hassle. Clicking one button and wanting to tell that person a message right there and then is what PMs provide you.

consider it concentrated, specialized e-mail for the forums. I think it's real convenient because I'd only give my hotmail acct to a big forums and I hate checking it (massive spam).
