I forgot to charge my phone last night and today I came home and the power was out at the house. So I have to resort to using my phone for everything and the low battery warning comes on. No problem. I grab the spare extended battery and pop it in. Awesome, I'm back in business with 100% charge on my phone. It's situation like this why having sealed non removable battery is bad design. Sure it might not be useful often but when the need comes up, it can be a lifesaver.

I'm just glad you didn't say, "I grab the spare extended battery pop it and BOOM I'm back in business". People love saying boom. I'm glad you don't.

For those with integrated batteries, could pick up one fo the 10-15,000mah batteries and keep that juiced up. When the need arises, plug the phone into that.

Would be more useful if there was a 2 minute of standby battery built in (a decent sized capacitor would do it) to let you change batteries without turning off the phone.
As it is, meh. Useful but not critical.

Yup. I suppose if you need to reboot your phone anyways, this doesn't hurt. But I prefer long long stretches of uptime. I'll charge off my laptop when the power goes out.

I hate not having a removable battery on the iPhone. My Mophie Juice Pack Plus is garbage. On #4 since January.

I grab the spare extended battery, pop it in, and BOOM! I'm back in business!

...

...seriously, though, I think removable batteries are just awesome like that.

Except when you have a bad charger (or your charging circuit is bugged) and the battery really goes BOOM! Happened once to my PSP...

Better not use an iPhone as your emergency/absolutely-must-be-able-to-receive-calls-24/7 phone.

Removable battery packs are a life saver. I went on a road trip and since I'm only borrowing the car, I didn't have a car charger. Everyone freaked out when our phones started to slowly die. Thankfully for me though I carried a extra battery pack. Without it I would have been stuck aimlessly looking for directions back home.

Isn't the reasoning behind not making removable batteries because it allows them to remove unnecessary mechanisms and slim down the device and make the batteries more efficient? And if you do want more battery power, then you could always get an external battery and use that to charge. Or something like that.

So, you power down your phone to swap out batteries instead of just charging it when you're sleeping?

I used to have to do that religiously when i was rocking the iPhone 4S and its AAA battery inside.

Now i just forget about it and put a new battery in when its running low.

I have 2 on charge at any one time. At £11 each they cost less than an Apple charger cable.

No the reason behind it is because its easier to get a battery made to fit in the spare space your left over in a phone once you put everything inside.

Plus once you offer removable battery then there is no reason why you shouldnt offer SD card slots. Then Apple and others cant rape you for £100 per 16GB of Nand they pay $5 for.

A well designed phone with non removable battery could have enough life for this whole issue to be moot.

Except you still need to charge it up at some point no matter what you do.

Once you start using the phone on 3G/4G the battery starts to burn on every phone. No matter how big it is. The physical size of batteries and the current power draw of phones means that removable battery is always going to win until some seriously new invention solves the problem.

I don't see how powering down your phone and swapping out the battery is more convenient than just recharging the phone/battery at night. Makes no sense unless you're in the middle of nowhere.

I have a nice clock/radio/docking station for my iphone. When I go to bed, I just place the phone in the cradle and it's charged when I wake up and ready to go out.

I get teased from time to time on my "brick", an (original) HTC Incredible with a extended battery.
I take the phone off charge at 6:30AM. I put it back on the charger at 11PM.
I don't know if I am a heavy user but I do watch movies on it during the train ride home. I used to carry spares in the bag (including the useless stock battery that seemed to last only a few hours)

i have a wall charger for my razr maxx. i also have a car charger that will charge it in about an hour. if my power is out when i get home, ill still have 60-70% battery anyway, and if i really need to charge it up i can do the laptop charge or pop it in my car and charge it there. i was worried the removable battery thing would be a detriment when i got the maxx, but so far it hasnt been.

i guess no one tethers their phones either then... i love spare batteries for that fact too. when your out and about, and need internet (or a friend needs it) you just fire up the phones wifi and youre off running. normally, at that point you start freaking out because you know your phone is losing 1% about every minute... but with spare batteries you just grin as you watch it die.

I have 3 batteries for my G nexus... there have been situations/days I have burned through all 3. I have days I don't go home, literally work for 2-3 days at a time. I have plug ins at my buildings, but it is much easier to just pop in a new battery and go.

not everyone gets a few hrs of sleep every night to charge their phones.. heck, I work with my dad. he has a 4s with a mophie case. He has burned through both the phone and mophie batteries. Now what? tethered to charger.

no matter how you spin it, removable battery > nonremovable
