In this day and age where technology is making everything SMALLER, why are video cards getting BIGGER AND BIGGER?
The transistors continue to get smaller while the die size continues to grow, along with the number of memory chips.
You're not comparing apples to apples. The same processing power of a massive card from five years ago would probably fit in a low-profile passively-cooled card today.

It is simply a matter of tradeoffs.
Design cost + manufacturing cost versus time-to-market, reliability, density (size), etc.
To be sure they could design cards that are 1/2 the size without sacrificing 1% of the performance...but are you ready to pay 2-3x more for the product?
It is called many things - the Project Triangle, the Project management triangle, the triple constraint - and basically it is meant to communicate the fact that you have basically three options but you can only have two of the three come true.
You can have the product developed fast (fast time to market) and cheap (low quality)...or fast and good (but expensive)...or cheap and good (but it will take a long time to develop).
That's what she said.
Thats what she said....

Kwitcherbitchin...The 570 (or 580) will fit in your HAF 932 case with no problems.
I saw the thread title and thought my wife was on here again...
I thought so too but I haven't seen your wife in over a month. Jk
Yeah, but we all know how they lie...
