I lived and worked near rich places before but I do not ever remember seeing exotic cars more than once or twice. The most expensive cars I would see on a daily bases were cars like NSXs, Corvettes, H2s, BMWs, Mercedes, etc. Now I see a different exotic every day. Do people here just like cars more or just want to show off?

I just find it interesting that I saw like 1 exotic car in like 10 years and now I see a different one every day here.

Show off more than anything else. I'll take a inconspicuous Lexus 600hL please.

Ive lived near highly populated wealthy areas before

So have I. Maybe because it's logical to assume that where there's money, there can be expensive cars?

Just curious as to why all the rich areas I lived near prior, I would never see exotics, now they are so common.

I think the wealth in SoCal grows faster than the price on the "basic" exotic; hence more people can afford them. Also, people are gaining wealth at younger ages, and the young'uns are more likely to invest in fast cars than an older person who might want a 2nd or 3rd home or a fatter investment portfolio. And everyone knows how materialistic those people in SoCal are! Of course they want to show off!

I hardly ever see ANYTHING nice in Alaska. a couple vipers and vettes and that's really about it. Except for this one dude who has two Ferrari 360's... a black and a yellow. He drives them alternately during the few summer months.

The Bay Area too. I live in Fremont and I've seen a Ferrari F430, two Ford GT's, a Lamborghini Murcielago, a Bently Continental GT, three Lotus Elise, plus tons of Porsches. Most of those I've seen within a mile from my apartment. The Murcielago, two of the Elise, and the Ferrari I saw parked in my apartment complex (but the owners don't live here).

*shrug* Maybe the weather's nicer and therefore more conducive to owning nice cars.

Yep. I think this is a big factor. Driving a Ferrari on salted streets just isn't the same as cruising down the California coast.

Yep, if you cruise around Rodeo drive or PCH around Malibu you'll see them all just about.

What's funny is when you see all these luxury/exotics parked outside a Taco Bell.

Everyone is an actor/actress or an agent of one.

Or everyone is a tech start-up CEO.

It's like this everyday for me in Silicon Valley.

Ason Martins, Maseratis, Porsche Turbos, and the occassiaonal Lambo & Ferrari thrown in.

i live in oak brook, IL and i see an exotic at least 10-15 times a day. we have a newly opened lambo dealer...a "luxury motors" dealer that sells aston martins, bentleys, and resells bmws, benz, porsches, etc...and a ferrari dealer down the road. then again, this is all on a street that everyone and his mother goes to. has fast food places and all sorts of shops.

the street is Ogden Ave in Illinois.

It's not just the wealth. It's the fact that in southern California (far more than northern), the appearance of wealth matters a lot to people.
