those 95% of americans are already paying for the new cig tax and the soon to be fossil fuel handout.

if the .gov spends it's money wisely on things that make will get it a decent return, then rates won't have to go up because the natural uptick in taxes collected with an expanding economy could increase to cover the debt payments.

No wai, are you saying in the long run imcome and expenses have to match up? And, since we all know that the crooks in DC will never actually reduce waste, taxes will have to go up, no matter what the liars in DC tell you. Forget about this "no new taxes on 95%" BS, that was a campaign lie that plenty of people bought into, but there's simply no way it can be a reality.

We need a constitutional balanced budget amendment. Force the budget to balance every 2 years. That, or we need a provision that mandates no salary increases for people on the federal payroll until the budget is balanced. That way, federal employees have a stake in the game, they know they can't get raises until the budget is balanced.

They could sure use that influx of Cocaine money that Florida gets. At least the illegals in your state bring in revenue instead of taking it.

As long as overall burden of health care is reduced on the economy, we'll be better off. The current course of spending twice as much as everyone to get worse results is simply not sustainable.

You think money grows on trees? Even if the government ran healthcare you would be the one paying the bill. Only thing is that with the govt paying the bill it will cost more I guess you want to pay a 50% tax and have no say on how the money is spent???

How many people will be denied health care or die waiting for a simple Cat Scan just to save a few dollars?

Money does not grow on trees, which is why spending 2x as much as other countries to get same or worse results is long term economic suicide. Other countries where the govt pays the bill it not only does not cost more, as you claim, but it costs a LOT less. How many uninsured people have to die because they don't get health care until it becomes a much more difficult to treat and expensive emergency?

It's only worse because the uninsured 1/3 drag down this nation. I'm pretty sure the people on Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Aetna or Kaiser or whatever are doing much better than the rest of the world.

You do realize that the conservative parts of this country would be left in a world of hurt without the blue states, right? Do you realize what percentage of our GDP is concentrated in the liberal areas?

Amazing, simply amazing.

You have no idea how much manufacturing exists in the SE (everything from hi-tech to autos etc).

Then, the real financial center is in Charlotte (unbeknownst to most people).

Then there's all the agri-business and animal husbandry.

You could split the parts with hardly any inconvenience, each part would still trade with the other, captial would still flow etc.

As far as GDP per state, I'd like to see that. I'm pretty sure the government doesn't have that data. Tax returns only have one address on them - that being the location of the admin HQ (usually); that in no way represents where the GDP is produced. H3ll, even the GDP from overseas operation is lumped in together with that from within the states.

I've also filled out Dept of Commerce forms, they don't ask for that kind of detailed data either. Again, they just show the one address and presumably cannot attribute the data beyond that.

1) Start by getting our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan; end those two wars ASAP.

2) Then start gutting the defense budget.

We can slash hundreds of billions from our deficit with those two moves.

You do realize that "blue states" are not 100% liberal Democrats. "Red states" are not 100% conservative Republicans. But we all know this and have repeated it to no end. Just that "some" like to chant certain phrases over and over and over again and never expand their knowledge.

We're already securing our volatile Mexican border with unarmed volunteers  Even still, you're many more hundreds of billions short of eliminating the deficit. While I do agree we should pull out of many places, this isn't even close to a complete solution.

How is this amazing in any way? I know that the red areas of the US produce quite a bit on their own, it is just not as much as the blue ones. I thought this was common knowledge.

If you think that creating two separate nations wouldn't create significant barriers to trade, you are foolish. 'Hardly any inconvenience'? My ass.

So instead of having 100x the military power of any other country on earth, if we only have 50x the military power is Osama going to launch an invasion? Is China going to make a giant bamboo raft and float their armies to our shores?

The $500 billion/year defense budget exists to line the pockets of defense contractors. That's it.

I'm sorry I didn't realize your last post had a point.

I thought you were just rambling between bong hits.
