I know that the red areas of the US produce quite a bit on their own, it is just not as much as the blue ones.

I really, truly believe its time for the country to split. Theres just too many differences that run too deeply in my opinion.
and how exactly do you split it, on a block by block basis?
seriously, what a moronic post.
That is because the blue states have higher populations.Originally posted by: eskimospy

You do realize that the conservative parts of this country would be left in a world of hurt without the blue states, right? Do you realize what percentage of our GDP is concentrated in the liberal areas?
I didn't realize that CA was dependent on Hollywood to feed them...wait they aren't as CA is an agricultural giant.Originally posted by: BoberFett

I didn't realize Hollywood and Wall Street actually produced anything that had real value.

In 2000 Al Gore almost won by carrying just 20 states.
And then factor in the higher cost of living and higher income levels. A person making $40k a year in the north east is going to live a life style similar to someone making $30k in parts of the southeast, but that person from the north will pay more income taxes due to our progressive income tax system.

Things are so cheap in the south because not that many people want to live there.

That bolded statement is utter nonsense.
Stop migrating here when you retire! Keep your snowbirds above the Mason Dixon! Seriously, how many people retire and move north?

People don't retire and move north, they tend to live there through their prime income generating years, which was sort of my point. People move south because it is warmer, and because the retirement money they built up during their lives goes farther in cheaper climates.
Property values have an awful lot to do with the amount of land available as compared to the amount of people that want to use that land. The Northeast and West Coasts have a large amount of people that want to use their land per acre, the South... not so much. Hence, the South is cheaper.

If you think that creating two separate nations wouldn't create significant barriers to trade, you are foolish. 'Hardly any inconvenience'? My ass.

Well, I guess that why we can't trade with Canada- they're a seperate nation.
Oh wait, it's not hard to trade with Canada is it?

Jeez - my post was clearly not inflammatory or derogatory in any way shape or form. Its interesting that you seem to have lost the ability to even accept some light humor and an emoticon beer at the end.
Congratulations on the jerk of the year award...

Any time you use an "if" with the gov, it's already going to failOriginally posted by: ElFenix
those 95% of americans are already paying for the new cig tax and the soon to be fossil fuel handout.
if the .gov spends it's money wisely on things that make will get it a decent return, then rates won't have to go up because the natural uptick in taxes collected with an expanding economy could increase to cover the debt payments.
It's not sustainable, but that's ok because the US is not doing that and never has been. The current course of spending twice as much as everyone to get worse results is simply not sustainable.
