Why TF is everyone raving about Conroe so much?

Yeah, I have taken a little bit of beating today... My $50k invested a week ago has turned into $47k :-( but that is the nature of the market. I still feel like Intel stock at a three year low and making TONS more profit per share (65nm procs help ALOT) is a safe bet.

Also, the market itself has been down quite a bit with inflation worries and oil prices but IF those stabalize, I think the market will take Intel to $20/share BEFORE Conroe.. Or at the very least, I hope it does ;-)

I don't doubt that it could possibly be a great chip, but there is more hype to it than anything right now. It'll be interesting to see for ourselves what it is really like when it is released.

yeah, saying that conroe is only hype is ridiculous. Several independent people have gotten ES's and tested them.

This was long in making.. intel has far MORE engineering and money to invest in this.. after losing for a while to Athlon series chips, X2, etc. They had to make something at least slightly better...

Are you kidding, if Intel comes out with another flop, heads will roll.. people will lose jobs.. i doubt they can go another year with bad cpu... bet you their marketing dept were begging like crazy.. "please dont make out go out and lie about hyper threading and netburst" hahah

Hey genius, did u ever think, that maybe some people don't want to buy whole new motherboards, and switch to DDR2 memory when they have perfectly good nforce4 boards and some good DDR memory. And possibly still sitting on a single core athlon 64.


that is my current situation. I have 2GB of OCZ EL DDR memory and a 146 opteron. and I welcome conroe so I can grab a 170 opteron for cheaper. i'm sure as hell not gonna replace my whole system just to buy a conroe cpu. That is just stupid. I'm aware that its faster but Cares Ya I do!

And the fact that Quad core cpu's will be out in 2007, I might just scrap the dual core opteron option. And do a full system upgrade a year from now if I feel its neccessary.

As stated before... "I will not be surprised if conroe ends up costing twice as much in the retail channel as what is being stated at the current time. It might take a while for the prices to stabilize and then fall back down towards the prices that are being quoted at the present time..."

I'd be surprised if the chips are sold by large etailers/retailers at more than 10% over the Intel pricing (unless that pricing is for 1000 chip lots, hope it isn't). The CPU market is too big and competition will force prices down to reasonble levels.

Prices will probably be ridicolous during the first 2 weeks of launch, but it will stabilize quickly.

Not only that, but it's also about 400$ cheaper.
