hehehe, damn. Everyone pronounced it that way, so I guess I caught on. I just realized that it's San....Pedro. Pedro separately, I pronounce it like you have it in your subtitle (except i don't use the "Y"..more like "EH")

Maybe because we pronounced "Peter" like "Peeeeter" instead of "PEHter?"

At least it's less annoying than when people mispronounce where I work and pronounce it "Lah Jollllla" instead of La "Hoya." Everytime, I have to spell it out for them.

Once I recieved an email from another company that makes stuff for us saying they couldn't find the city of La Hoya. errrr...

People pronounce it in various ways, especially people from the South. But in the North, it may be said differently.

I've never heard it prounounced with the PEE sound either, and I'm from Okiehoma, where they pronounce Miami, Oklahoma like Miamuh. WTF?! I gave up trying to prounounce native american names a long time ago too...

Because this is America (not a spanish country) and you used the letter "E". If you want it with an "A" sound, use an "A". It'll be a fairly simple name change for you to get accustomed to, but everyone will then pronounce it correctly.

I visted La Jolla this winter for business. I looked at 3 different maps and NONE of them had La Jolla on it. Sure there was La Jolla coast, and many other things labeled La Jolla XYZ, but there was no city or town on the map named La Jolla.

Maybe you should take a poll on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills as to how people pronounce San Pedro?

La Jolla isn't a city or town, it's just a region in the city of San Diego.

On another note, I live in San Rafael, which locals pronounce San Ruh-fell.

Then that answers Dan's questions as to why people can't find a city that doesn't exist. If your city doesn't exist, don't complain that people can't find it. Say you live in San Diego and then you'll have no problems.

Glad that you'd agree, because I've witnessed folks from different areas speak somewhat differently from other folks.

We have a San Pedro Avenue here in San Antonio, TX - it's a major thoroughfare, and merges into Hwy 281.

I don't think anyone here calls it "peedro" - but then, the majority of people here are Hispanic, and pronounce it pEHdro, or pAYdro (if they're true texan)...

So there. thppt.

Um, have you ever left your cave?

Go anywhere in LA and find someone who's actually left their house for more than 15 seconds and they're pronounce it PEE-droh.

And just in case some of you were wondering, 99.9% of the locals, be they white, hispanic, black, Asian or purple pronounce it PEE-droh. It's not a mispronunciation, it's just the way it's said. What I'm wondering is why. I mean yes, people mess up words in different languages -- the city of Vallejo California is constantly being called "Vah-LAY-joe", but never by anyone with a triple digit IQ.

EVERYONE calls San Pedro "San PEE-droh". And yes Mister MoronMan, even rich people.

Because almost all the Spanish place names in California have Anglicized pronounciations.

Del Norte, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, etc.
