Maybe because we pronounced "Peter" like "Peeeeter" instead of "PEHter?"
At least it's less annoying than when people mispronounce where I work and pronounce it "Lah Jollllla" instead of La "Hoya." Everytime, I have to spell it out for them.
Once I recieved an email from another company that makes stuff for us saying they couldn't find the city of La Hoya. errrr...
I visted La Jolla this winter for business. I looked at 3 different maps and NONE of them had La Jolla on it. Sure there was La Jolla coast, and many other things labeled La Jolla XYZ, but there was no city or town on the map named La Jolla.Originally posted by: DanTMWTMP

People pronounce it in various ways, especially people from the South. But in the North, it may be said differently.

Because this is America (not a spanish country) and you used the letter "E". If you want it with an "A" sound, use an "A". It'll be a fairly simple name change for you to get accustomed to, but everyone will then pronounce it correctly.

Then that answers Dan's questions as to why people can't find a city that doesn't exist. If your city doesn't exist, don't complain that people can't find it. Say you live in San Diego and then you'll have no problems.Originally posted by: knivox
La Jolla isn't a city or town, it's just a region in the city of San Diego.
On another note, I live in San Rafael, which locals pronounce San Ruh-fell.

Maybe you should take a poll on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills as to how people pronounce San Pedro?
