Argghh..

Went to Taco Bell today ... got the cheapest combo (3 tacos & drink / $3)

Gave the guy my check card

He says : "I.D."

I'm thinking wtf ... ID for $3 .. look for ID ... doh ... left in the car .. don't feel like going to get it

I say "no, just do debit then"

He says "Still need ID"

I tell him he doen't need ID ... ask him if he's ever seen the VISA check card commercials
that stress NO ID (he looks clueless) ... then tell him he definitely doesn't need ID if it's debit, the PIN number is the freakin security measure

"Can't sell it to you without ID"

Now it's just principle, I'm not going to get my ID, so I tell him to go get his manager..
She comes out and is like "what's the problem?"

I'm like "I just ordered 3 tacos and I need you to shove them up this kids ass ...
make sure you ID him too so you know you've got the right ass .. Thanks"

Then I went across the street to Wawa

Because people can buy something really cheap with stolen credit cards to check if it works.

wow. you aren't the smartest.

They are IDing you to make sure someone doesn't "borrow" your card, and make purchases, however small. They are doing it to protect you.

2/10 for the stupid entertainment factor.

You wouldnt like it to much if someone stole your card and used it at tacobell. That "kid" is only protecting your card, u should thank him for asking for an ID.

They are doing for you: CYA

Otherwise what should stop someone from obtaining your card and ordering $20 from the Bell.

Actually, I'm on the side of convenience here. You are not supposed to have to have id with debit cards.

I think asking for ID is a violation of VISA/MC agreements.

Circuit City was going against their agreement with Visa/MC when asking for ID with a card that was signed.

These are true statements.

I have been at a store w/my CC and no ID. So, yes, I did create a small scene and stood there as the manager called my Visa card bank.

The card is valid only if it is signed and according to the Visa/MC merchant agreements that is all that is required. An ID along with a properly signed CC is not required.

In fact, all those customers that have not signed their card but put SEE ID in the signature area have cards that are not valid. Try using one of these at a USPS, they will not accept a card that is not signed.

Why does Visa make commercials where the whole point of the card is you don't need ID ?

Taco Bell doesn't need to "protect" me ... Visa and my bank cover stolen card purchases.

What's stopping someone with the pin from putting on a mask and going to an atm machine? The thief would make ~$600 with less danger of gettting caught.

I wish they always forced the ID issue. My card was stolen and used at a liquor store (before I turned 21, no less), and by the time I got my card cancelled, I had over $200 worth of unrecoverable charges on it.

That is against USPS policy.

i hate ppl who ask ID and i hate stores that require you purchase over a minimum amount to use credit card, and if you dont they charge you a fee.

both are illegal and this past weekend i made a big deal about orange julius that tried to charge me $1 for using a credit card with a $3.59 purchase. thats over a 25% markup fee for the convenience of credit card. i already reported incidents to my card issuing bank, visa, and orange julius.

i dont care if they dont check ID. using "credit" as oppossed to "Debit", credit card users have chargeback rights that favor the card holder, not the merchant.

You showed up someone who makes $4.35/hour. Good for you!

My local Taco Bells doesn't take bills over $20.00 (posted signs). Our money states for "all debts public or private"). I am going to go in there with a $50.00 and raise hell. I could go to my car and get a $20.00, but I feel the need to "feel important".

To me this is kinda like being a passenger in the car and being mad that someone braked thru an intersection, because the driver doesn't need to "protect" you since your medical insurance will cover your hospital bills.

An ounce of common sense, people?
