Why the uproar if a bunch of white folks want to hang together and burn a cross?

Looks like a bunch of white Christians wanted to hang together, sing cumbaya and burn a cross in some shithole private farmland in Alabama.

As long as they are hurting no one, why not let them burn off some steam.

It's not like you can convert them to like other races, that's like saying you can convert gay people into straight.

So why is it such a big deal?

So what do you propose should be done exactly? Last I heard freedom of association was not against the law.

So this means you would want government to step in and bust some heads for this group of people who you disagree with personally?

Nope, I want the community to stand up and point at them on the radio, TV, newspaper and, literally. Let them know loud and clear their views are not wanted, accepted or, tolerated.

As long as the pigs want to have their meeting in their pig pen and not force their beliefs on others it is their right, just like it is the right of everyone else to point out how filthy the pigs are as long as they don't try to forcibly wash them of their filth.

Being that this event is taking place on far off on private property they probably won't give a damn.

Which is why I gave the quote I did. The hate these groups spew is like cancer. Just because it's out of sight, doesn't mean it's gone.
Never miss an opportunity to smack down and deride the hate mongers.

By who? How do you know that their views aren't "wanted, accepted or, tolerated". What gives you the right to control what they can talk about? Maybe the community thinks what their doing is just dandy.

I don't like thought police.

The problem with being overly tolerant is evil sneaks right by. People who think 'their crazy ideas don't affect me' and, 'I'll just ignore the idiots and keep to myself,' enable the hate groups. These groups ARE the minority yet have an unreasonable amount of impact through fear and misplaced tolerance.

They can think whatever they like. As soon as they publicly talk about it or demonstrate, it becomes my business whether done legally or not.

Last time I read about cross burnings, if a black person, or any person, saw it and complained, the burners could be in serious trouble.

I don't think the same logic was used when New York sent spies into Muslim meetings.

I am not proposing anything gets done. I just don't understand why people are making such a big stink.

Possibly because some people remember what goes along with "white Christians only" gatherings where crosses are burned. Like it or not, historical context matters. That doesn't mean they can't exercise their rights to free speech, but it's moronic to not expect people to be unhappy about it.

You won't be so gung-ho when it's your beliefs that are on societies chopping board. Sorry, you don't get to shut down freedom of speech, or religion just because you don't like it. That's part of living in a free country.

You are right, but I hope as they dance around that burning cross a huge bolt lighting comes crashing down on them and kills maims them all. If that happens I would be the first to book plane to their funeral CELEBRATE out side the funeral.

It would be wonderful if they all were in a building having a meeting and it burns down with them in it. Hell i wouldn't convict the person who set the fire. Their deaths would be a great thing, a reason to celebrate.

I agree, earth to Hugo, earth to Hugo, any time KKK types get together and have there own brand of fun, it goes far beyond just good ole boy fun and rapidly becomes corrosive rude crude and socially un acceptable behavior.

As I ask you Hugo?:, how could you pretend otherwise?

So does this means you want government to step in and bust some heads for a social gathering of people whose views you disagree with personally? What happens with the next group someone else has an issue with but you support?

You won't be so gung-ho when it's your beliefs that are on societies chopping board. Sorry, you don't get to shut down freedom of speech, or religion just because you don't like it. That's part of living in a free country.

-Why is there always the immediate assumption that government has to get involved? No one is saying the FBI should kick down these people's doors drag them out into the night kicking, screaming and pissing themselves then line them up in front of a mass grave and execute all of them.

Just as much as these people have a right to hold their repulsive, unamerican beliefs, do other private citizens have the right to express their disgust with these beliefs. Store owners should not suffer their patronage, decent folk should cross to the other side of the street, fathers should not allow their daughters to consort with their type...

Eventually they will feel the persecution is too much and strike out to find a homeland of their own and they will then be someone else's problem!

Knowledge is power. I'd go if I could just to observe.
Knowing how the other half operates can be very educational.
Kinda like watching the old Tammy and Jim Baker tv show, just to grasp how religious fundies operate.
Usually the first thing clearly exposed with people like this is the hypocrisy.
