This morning, however, The Wall Street Journal delivered a devastating blow to the blood-test unicorn. According to investigative reporter John Carreyrou, Holmes’s company not only may have exaggerated the precision of its vaunted technology, Edison (named for America’s most mythical founder), but also runs the “vast majority of its tests with traditional machines bought from companies like Siemens AG.” Carreyrou also tracked down a number of patients who said that they had received inaccurate test results from the company, which operates in many Walgreens stores.

For one, the cost is much lower. One particular test is about $20 USD at this firm versus $200 USD average at other firms.

During a panel at Vanity Fair’s New Establishment Summit last week, an audience member said the cost of a standard Vitamin D test was $200. Through Theranos, it was about $20.

Theranos has all the red flags of a giant scam ready to crumble. Offering too-good-to-be-true prices? Check. Messianic CEO promising to change the world? check. Attributing all negative facts to "disgruntled employees" and people who just don't understand the vision? check. I'd stay far away from anything coming from that company. My guess is there's going to be a lot more stuff exposed, and when it comes to medical testing and such, it's REALLY hard to rebuild trust and confidence if you've been shown to screw stuff up.

Welp, it doesn't look good for Theranos. Last I heard, they pay well, work you like a dog, but provided free lunch/dinner. Very clandestine and secretive about their product. Glassdoor provides all the tidbits. They were even in the old Facebook building until they moved into their new offices.
