I have tried it a couple times for my webmail for school and my gmail. But dont see much use in it?

Can anyone tell me the benefits over using gmail (with all my accounts on one gmail account)?

I just cant seem to like outlook and dont see benefit besides having emails when offline (not that i want that and gmail has that too).

I use ThunderBird, mainly to use email offline. I also have a few email accounts, and ThunderBird works well for keeping everything organized. I also like it because I'm not trapped with a proprietary format. If worse comes to worse, I can recode it myself(not likely), or pay someone to do it for me. I won't get trapped with a non-compatible email client like I did with Earthlink's mail software. Outlook has a lot of advanced features that I don't use, but are probably good for the executive set.

Outlook is good if you want integrated calendar and tasks and other tools plus offline mail access. It also works great with exchange.
If i didn't use it at work, i probably wouldn't use it much at all.

No matter how fast your computer and how fast your internet connection, there is an inherent slowness from using any web-app. For most it probably doesn't matter, but I deal with high-tech and high-speed technology in my everyday life, with my responsibilities being uptime, performance, and bandwidth management. As such I tend to get extremely anal when computers function slowly. My home desktop boots up from post to non-hourglass functionality in something like 11 seconds, and watching people who tolerate waiting minutes for their retarded list of startup-based applications that they absolutely MUST have (even though they seldom use) to load drives me apeshit insane.

On that note, the speed difference between opening, replying, composing, attaching, and folder management between web-apps such as gmail, hotmail, etc, and Outlook is big enough of an overall performance and speed boost for the amount of time in any given day that I commit to composing e-mail that I quite simply could not be without.

Of course I don't expect everyone to be that way, but I conclude it to be a legitimate reason for me personally.

I use Outlook/Exchange for work (Actually, Evolution since I'm on Opensuse).

Google Apps/Gmail at home. Actually, I've been using Windows Live Mail recently (w/ IMAP for Gmail), and like it quite a bit. It also has the integrated calendar function as well as contact syncing with the Live services....so other computers with the Live Mail client, signed in to my live account, all share the same Address Book and Calendar.

11 second boot yeah I would LOVE to see that video and a list of specs on that. As far as Outlook I gave it up after trying to set up my 5 email accounts with nothing but hassles (3 AOL, 1 Yahoo-ypops, 1 gmail) I have been using thunderbird now for about 6 months and love it. Once I set it up it worked with no hitches (knock on wood) unlike Outlook which I never got to work right. If I was in one account and wanted to send to another (just one of the issues i had) I had to physically switch accounts. With Thunderbird I can switch accounts to send from within the email itself.

Outlook is good for a single account. Trying to use it to maintain more than that is a hassle. Thunderbird is better for that.

You seem to be from a home environment. I'd recommend that you use Thunderbird IF you need to access your mail offline. Otherwise, just stick with the web-based gmail.

Me, I use a mix of it all. (Too complicated/messy to explain)
