For most other dispatches, it seemed like a clear motivation- Iraq attacks kuwait, Kosovo/Somalia genocides, WTC... but this time, i'm a bit confused...

Because that way Bush can pretend like he is doing something about terrorism, without offending "our friends the saudis" who are really behind most of the wahabbi terrorism. If 15 Russians took down the WTC in the 1980's, a nuclear war would break out, and the world as we know would end. But when 15 Saudis take down the WTC, not a single Saudi hair is touched in response. Instead Bush is sitting in the Best Little Western Whitehouse in Texas and cuddling up with the shameless Saudis who have still not even been humbled.

Uh, there's a little fact you're forgetting outside of the slight suspicion of Saddam's involvement in the WTC. It's that small little bit about him building up tons of nukes, not allowing our weapons inspectors in, and oh yeah, he hates the US. Who's the first target for all those nukes, you think?

And we don't use our Nukes and Chemical Weapons on other countries? Get real, we're just as bad as anyone else. We just hide it because there's too much at risk with our Consumer Society.

We could tell them the day, exact time, and path our forces would take and they still couldn't do a damn thing about it. Unleash the Air Force for a couple of days and the place would be in ruins. Then it's time to roll in the tanks and infantry and clean up. Of course we will play nicey nice and not bomb the hell out of them like needs to be done. God if we only had some modern Generals like Patton who didn't give a rat's ass about public opinion and know that you cannot take half measures in war.

Bush Jr.'s term will be remembered as an aweful one. It might be time for a black democratic candidate to step up to the plate, because I think we'd vote anyone but Bush in the next national election.

When have we stopped bombing?
We have bombed something every week for the last 10 years, it just never hits the news.

:Q

Since when have we used nukes or chemical weapons since, say WWII? I know we did limited chemical experiments on our own citizens and we (justifiably) bombed japan, but what else?

Are you new, or something?

BTW, who said we are bombing Iraq? That is still not decided. The process of ousting Saddam might be one of covert action, almost a surgical process, if you will. At this point, assuming that we will bomb, is a blind assumption. There might be other, more efficient ways, as we are dealing with overthrowing one man, not an army, such as Al-Queda or Taliban.

Everyone's confused.

Even the people here defending the attack, they have no clue because Bush hasn't even given reasons except to say he's a "threat"!

Even the senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee has no clue what Bush is basing his justification on, and is asking Rumsfeld to make the case to them.

The fact that Iraq has flagrantly and continuously violated the terms of the cease-fire at the end of Desert Storm is alone sufficient justification for the US to go to war to remove Hussein from power. Never mind the fact that his weapons of mass destruction pose a threat to regional stability and to US interests. Never mind also the fact that these weapons of mass destruction could easily find their way into the hands of Al-Quaida or others like them.

Speak for yourself. Seems to be a common state for you.

Actually, it's patently obvious why he's a threat to the United States and to peace in the Middle East. Since it is so obvious, and you cannot see it, then it's pointless to reiterate.

Reiterate what? All we know is that Bush tells us he is a threat. All he has to do is stage a press conference, show us satellite photos of an Iraqi nuclear reactors or missile sites or something, and people would be behind him. I think we should go get him, history shows that ignoring evil people only leads to them perpatrating greater violence in the furture. But, a lot of people don't share this view, and Bush has done a piss poor job selling war to them.
