Why won't it find the Win XP cd?

I've been trying to format today and the XP Pro CD reads fine in 2k, and I can run the install but then when it auto reboots and it runs the setup after reboot, it won't/can't read/find the XP Cd...any ideas?

Is your CD player chained to any other drive? You might try it as a master on its own cable for the install. (I am assuming this is a retail CD, because an improperly burned "backup" copy can do this.

Say it was a backup, would getting the original fix it for sure? Anyway to get the backup to work?

Many XP CDs made from pirated images have problems like these (XP CDs have some kind of copy protection built-in that makes it hard to get perfect images). According to a friend of mine, switching between 2 or even 3 CDs made from different images can help one get through the installation successfully.

um, if it is a "backup" is that disk bootable? my last "backup" wasnt bootable, i had to get a new "backup.

other than that i dunno.

Yep, the original will have no problem booting...

I had a backup that would be read from any Windows enviroment, but wouldn't boot.

Yeah, the original will work for sure. I don't know why Microsoft would of put security on their disks as they require an original key and then an activation for that key anyway. And pretty soon its all gonna be one big security fest.

Yeh, the original will work, your copy isnt bootable...

yeah, it's funny how they wont let you make a worthwhile copy of your disk, but at the same time you can activate the same disk on 3 different computers before they make you call in and verify your authentification code.
