Nintendo’s upcoming new console, the Nintendo NX, won’t be using x86 architecture and AMD Polaris chips if a Nintendo insider it to be believed.

So it's another unconfirmed rumor. Not really an announcement. Guess we'll find out in 9 months but I sure hope not.

Everything is just a rumor but seeing as its been in development for a while already I don't seeing it being more powerful than the current consoles.

This person works for Nintendo. I trust the info

I would have really doubted that info given what they had all been talking about before in that 3rd party games would be an extremely simple port, mainly just control interface changes. A different CPU and GPU architecture than Sony and Microsoft is most certainly NOT a simple port.

Nobody who works for Nintendo has said anything about that though. Previous rumors and looking more and more like bs.

There was a lot of chatter when the NX was first announced that the system might use ARM based chips, since there was a desire on Nintendo's end to be able to develop for their handheld and home console more concurrently. I remember thinking that if they were going to go that route, Nvidia could be a good choice, since they have GPU architectures that scale well from tablets all the way up to big desktop PC parts. ARM is supported in a lot of the 3rd party devs' middleware already, so the question would be more "is the ARM CPU fast enough?" rather than "can devs deal with a CPU that's not x86?"

Anyway, a little curveball in my thinking was that AMD has worked on X86 based tablet SOCs in the past, so it wouldn't be too crazy to think that they could produce a solution for a Nintendo handheld.... but, I thought something like an Nvidia ARM chip was a little more likely, if Nintendo really wanted to keep things easy with their internal development between a mobile and home device.

Who knows tho? I'm still skeptical about a Neo release this holiday season, since I thought we'd see 'Xbox One S' types of refreshes from MS and Sony this year, but not anything as substantial as what the Neo is rumored to be until another year out or more.

If Nintendo wants cheap and low power consumption Polaris 11 would fit the ticket. Would also make for easy ports and 1080p gaming.

It's less than six months until Nintendo said they are going to release the NX. It obviously is not coming out at that time because they should have announced something, especially with the release of slim models for both PS4 and Xbox consoles and faster models of those as well.

What the hell is Nintendo doing?? We should have heard something by now. I'm curious if there is some inner turmoil over the NX.

I think it will be some time this month when it is revealed. Maybe they wanted enough time to pass from Sony and MS's announcements?

And that's probably why they haven't announced anything because of the upgraded consoles. It's probably going to be delayed even more so now.

It's supposed to be more of a successor to the 3DS than the Wii U though.

Well I read that it was rumored to be some type of hybrid. Like roughly the power of an Xbox one that you could take on the go or plug into the tv.

The rumored tablet idea with a touchscreen does Not at all appeal to me though.

There's some video of that fat Frankie dude at a panel from Comic Con or something, where he talks about the NX and how he has talked to people developing on it. And he talks about how it's a hybrid console where you can be playing it on your tv, then disconnect it and play it on the go, then when you get back home you can play it again on the tv. He also said that all of the people who have seen it are saying how they wish they had thought of the idea behind it earlier, and how it's pretty easy to develop for.

I think I saw some of that video. The problem I think I would have is that some games that I like playing on the TV at home with the surround sound don't translate well to a small screen with little speakers or a headset. Some games that I would play on a 3DS or Vita I wouldn't think work very well on the big screen. I wouldn't see myself playing a game at home, then taking a road trip and continuing that game. I don't enjoy every game in that environment. Take for example a game like Animal Crossing. On the 3DS I played it in spurts. A few minutes here and a few minutes there just to get the day's items and catch bugs/fish/dig for items etc. I wouldn't really play a game like that at home on the TV(I am aware that Animal Crossing was a Gamecube title first). I don't think games like Witcher 3 would translate well to a handheld either. I just get the feeling that I'd use it exclusively one way or the other and it's main feature would not be a benefit for me.

FINALLY we are getting something tomorrow. Nintendo announced that they are finally letting some info out but unfortunately it's just a 3min video of the NX which to me means it's still not even close to prime time. I don't expect it to be ready in time for March release if all were getting is a video. No press conference on this very extremely anticipated new Nintendo console?

Nintendo will reveal its next console, codenamed the Nintendo NX, with a trailer tomorrow morning, the company announced today.

The trailer will go live on Nintendo's website at 10 a.m. ET on Oct. 20. It will be about three minutes long, according to Nintendo's Japanese Twitter account.

"This preview trailer will serve as Nintendo's preliminary announcement of information regarding the platform," the company said in a news release.

Nintendo said this past April that it will launch the NX in March 2017 worldwide. Reports from anonymous sources have indicated that the system could use cartridges instead of discs, do away with region locking and be a hybrid unit that serves as both a console and a portable gaming system.

The thing I hate about Nintendo so much is that I know if they show me something that gives me something that reminds me of Mario 64 then I would probably have to purchase the new console. However Nintendo is pretty stupid now a days so the chances of them showing something like that is pretty slim.

I also couldn't care less about the whole portable/stationary type of thing they are trying to do with the console so that alone will probably make me hold off on it. I'll be interested in seeing the video though.

I'm sorry but it looks stupid. I don't want a hybrid console because that means it has to be make concessions to it being a normal console for it to be be mobile. Plus it is looks huge like a 7"-8" tablet, not exactly portable. Plus it has them playing on super tiny Wii like controllers at one point. I'm sorry but this does not make me excited. Plus the fact that it has been a screen and a dock, it doesn't look cheap. Probably $400-$500

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

Yep, Nintendo isn't even trying. All they had to do was put the power of an Xbox one (cheap and available tech) in a box with a traditional controller and say "you will get a new metroid adventure game and a Mario game in the spirit of super Mario 64" and it would sell out.

It's powered by a custom version of the Tegra, I presume a slightly bumped up X1 which isn't impressive at all for gaming. I have a shield tv and the games it can play don't look any more visually impressive than what you could do a decade ago. It seems like all the games will still have sub par graphics again for Nintendo.
