As for me, I will never build Intel system in my life. Why? Because I use AMD for 5 years now and now all of the sudden Intel gets out a new CPU that beats AMD by a hair and I go to Intel? No way man, I am not whoring for Intel or any other CPU manufacturer for that matter. AMD for teh win

Have you built an AMD rig recently?

Are you seriously recommending a Celeron D? I was beginning to believe your "I'm not a fanboy!" cries, but now I'm in doubt...

Celeron D? Ewww, be serious man!

Conroe makes sense for most people building a new system, but for those with good DDR (and possibly good socket 939 mobo already), upgrading their CPU makes the most sense.

Never underestimate the power of a Celeron. Although now that AMD chips are dirt cheap they arent bad value choices either.

Because semprons, A64 are much better options than netburst based CPUs, also the X2 are excellent options if you already have a socket 939 board, as you can see there are plenty of reasons for someone to buy an AMD CPU.

The power of what?!!!, the power of the S***t!! I would say.,
Come on man, the celeron absolutely sucks, there is not REALLY absolutely any reason to buy that piece of S***t when you can get for the same price a MUCH FASTER Semprom from AMD.

I had a good s.939 system, using an Opt.170. I sold everything (mobo, ram, cpu) on the C2D launch and got a C2D system for just 50 bucks more.

I went from 2.4GHz Opt to 3.2GHz C2D, performance wise it's a lot for 50 bucks.

The early adopter strategy paid off, because the s.939 had still a good market value and DDR2 price was still low (it has increased almost 50% here in the last month).

You have got to be kidding me. Celeron != power, those two words shouldn't even be in the same sentence. The AMD Sempron-based system I buit for the customer was cheaper and had more guts than a celeron system would have had.

That statement is has the smell of fanboi....

Because, for some things, AMD is (still) superior, or can do the same job, cheaper. Or, people just like AMD. I built an AMD rig a while ago, and I kind of wish I would've waited a bit, seeing how Kentsfield and G80 are just around the corner..

Well, I could recollect about 1000 threads earlier this year about "Why anyone would want to buy a Intel rig". Though I think the thread ended after it's 3rd or 4th reply. Lots of love and support for Intel I suppose.

That is so true. And it pains us all to admit we were once smitten with Advanced Micro.

Long live mighty Intel.

In either case, one should use a little common sense instead of poking the obvious with a stick.
