Why would ASUS not cover their products under warranty?

First of all let me start by saying **** ASUS!

I sent in my laptop for repair. The DVD drive is dead and my webcam was installed upside down and my back right USB port has intermittent sink.

Lastly my battery is basically dead.

My laptop has a 2 year warranty that expires in sep of 2011 they are trying to charge me for replacing the battery saying that it is not an essential part of the laptop, and that the battery only has a one year warranty even though I have a 2 year warranty on the laptop.

Does anyone know how to argue my way to getting a new battery for my laptop?

Batteries are an item that wear out, typically lasting just over a year. Wear-and-tear is not covered under warranty.

If you want a new battery then you need to buy one.

A lot of manufacturers are using cheap Chinese made batteries that don't last as long as they used to.

Forget the battery. Address the faulty laptop components only. And, for best results, chill out with the confrontational attitude.

well I am polite on the phone I have worked at a call center too, but online for ranting purposes.

Do you know where I can find a battery for my laptop for cheaper then the $130 they want to charge me?

That sounds like every laptop manufacturer's stance on the battery. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Based on this e-mail I was going to buy an ASUS but have decided to go with a Dell from COSTCO. I have read other sites that did not give me a warm and comfortable feeling about ASUS. However, I did call ASUS technical support: They actually spoke understandable English as Tech Support is in Jamaica. COSTCO's tech support is in Fort Myers, Florida with a real live English speaking person.

Did you know that people in Jamaica are alive and speak English as their first language?

Terms and conditions
The 2-year limited warranty covers all ASUS notebooks and a limited one-year warranty is given for the battery (battery capacity's natural loss is excluded from this warranty).

Looks like you'll have to buy a new battery, wear and tear stuff, have ASUS fix the rest.

This all sounds reasonable. DVD drives and batteries die basically whenever you want to use them.

To the guy basing a purchase on support, Dell will probably be worse. They have 2 support departments. 1 department for items within warranty and within the return period. Then another for items just within warranty outside of the return period.

I still have a dell xps with an annoying clicking power block/wall wart under warranty that might be fixed by a 100$ motherboard replacement charge.
