Why would ASUS not cover their products under warranty?

First of all let me start by saying FUCK ASUS!

I sent in my laptop for repair. The DVD drive is dead and my webcam was installed upside down and my back right USB port has intermittent sink.

Lastly my battery is basically dead.

My laptop has a 2 year warranty that expires in sep of 2011 they are trying to charge me for replacing the battery saying that it is not an essential part of the laptop, and that the battery only has a one year warranty even though I have a 2 year warranty on the laptop.

Does anyone know how to argue my way to getting a new battery for my laptop?

It is the most comprehensive service package in the industry.

Asus appears to consider the battery an "accessory". Doesn't make much sense, but as you see in my post quoted from the Asus website, they clearly state that the battery is only covered for one year.

Help me out how would you suggest I argue for a replacement battery for free considering I have a 2 year warranty?

If you think I won't get it then do you know where I can get a battery for the ASUS N61-VG model I have found them for $70?

I don't know of any manufacturer that offers a extended warranty for batteries, since they degrade with age.

Laptop battery warranties are typically only a year. They will only replace the battery if it degrades due to manufacturers failure, not normal wear and tear

Ebay has cheap batteries, but they are just that cheap and your mileage will vary.

Did it not come with Windows 7 and you then installed it?

Batteries are a consumable part; like tires on a car. 1 year is more than sufficient to protect against manufactured defect, and I would consider a 2 year warranty on a battery exceptional. In other words; you aren't likely to find that from any manufacturer.

Third party batteries are HIGHLY variable, and I'd estimate that the greater majority aren't as good as oem. Keep that in mind when comparing prices. If lessened run time and lifespan is worth the price break, then go for it. You may even get lucky, but for guaranteed performance, you should go oem.

Okay I might just buy it from Newegg. I really don't want to give ASUS any more money.
