Why would you buy an Xbox 360?

GameStop has had $400 bundles with 1 game plus their 1 year replacement warranty.

Microsoft sells 1-year for $30, 2-year for $60 but you must call and get it within 14 days of purchase (careful about an xbox left under the tree for a week, the clock is ticking).

Every MS console so far, the X1 and X360, have both head extensive issues, particularly at launch. The X1 was recalled multiple times before its official launch date because of its slapped together, hodge podge, antique PC hardware.

The X360 faired a better, but it also added new flaws, namely the bricking issues. In a year or so, MS will up the warranty as the manufacturing of the CPU/GPU get cheaper and easier to make. It is kinda sh!tty that MS only gives a 90 day warranty, but since they sold out their launch consoles, and still sell well, they have little reason to increase the warranty or slash the price. People will continue to buy X360s, and complain about X360s until the next generation of console.

In todays internet centric world, the problems with the Xbox 360 and every other complex electronic device are greatly overstated. There will be nearly 10 million Xbox 360's out there by the end of the year. If just 0.5% percent of those had a problem, we're talking about 50,000 users (who are likely internet savy) complaining that Microsoft has the most unreliable product ever...blah...blah...blah. Look at all the people who complain about the PS2 and how crappy it is quality wise. Actually, I really can't think of a console where that has not been said. Even back in the days of the NES, my original console stopped working all of a sudden after only a year or so of use.

granted I haven't used it that heavily in the fast few months...

If my XBox 360 broke through no fault of my own, then I'd vote with my dollars and not buy another Microsoft gaming console. I also have a Nintendo Wii, so I'd probably simply reward Nintendo with more of my business if Microsoft screws me over.

If there were as many problems with the xbox 360 as you hear on the internet, then the market would turn away from them toward Nintendo or Sony.

Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, SNES, N64, Gamecube - these systems did not have ubiquitous quality problems like the Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox and Xbox 360. The NES's only common problem was the 10NES lockout chip being a little too sensitive and refusing to let you play legitimate games (resulting in a blinking power light and flashing blank screen). No, there was a time when we didn't expect systems to be buggy at launch. Granted, systems were a lot less complicated back then.

his uncles, his cousins, ebay junkers.

i dont think the problem is overstated at all.

i'd really like one, but i'd fell mighty pissed investing over $500 in a system that broke down after only a few months.

yes i would buy one, because i'm not a paranoid pvssy ...

you hear about people's xbox360's crapping out on the internet, sure ... but what about the millions of them that haven't had any problems? you don't hear those stories ...

And you didn't have message boards to post on when you were 10 and your SNES died. I don't disagree that older systems had less problems...but they are also significantly less complex as you mentioned already. This does make a significant difference and yet there were problems with those machines as well (as I know from my own personal experience).

Nothing paranoid about it. The failures are caused by a design flaw. The design flaw exists in every Xbox 360, whether it has broken or not. The ones that haven't broken yet will likely have a reduced life. There's nothing wrong with waiting until they fix the design flaw to buy one, especially if you're content with what you have now.

Well I bought my MS warranty way outside of the 14 days. You can buy a warranty on the system as long as it is still under the 90 day warranty.

I bought a 1 year warranty, and was told that if I wanted to buy another year, I could just call back before the warranty expired and purchased another extension.

the warranty never bothered be though since i will purchase my 360 from Costco where i can take it back in 91 days, 366 days, or 3 years if somethign goes wrong (or i just want to upgrade to an xbox720 lol)

Its for accounting - they can recognize warranty revenues faster because the time expires in 3 months.

They really don't care what people will think about reliability because they know the product is good and people will buy it anyway.

Pretty good business decision.

what you don't remember blowing on cartridges incessantly because they wouldn't boot up? those systems had issues, just different ones.

I wouldn't buy a video card that's only warranted for three months, or a computer, or a TV, or an appliance, or really anything, at all. Everything has at least a one year warranty, some three years or more. So what makes this console any different? To me that's kind of like the manufacturer admitting it's unreliable. Hell even the PS3 gives you a year.
