Pretty sure that an employer can block whatever websites he wants. People shouldn't be looking at that tripe while at work anyway.

They didn't take the website down at the source. That's the only way it'd be a first amendment violation. Blocking employees or freeloaders (public wifi) from seeing it is not.

I'm definitely not on the "yay censorship" train, but I don't think restricting access to a website on one particular wifi network that basically services a business is something to get up in arms over, regardless of the motives.

yes, the wireless network had guest accounts enabled, but it's not like it's a public wifi like some cities have.

This whole Wisconsin Gov. Walker issue may have national legs.

Its simply the golden rule again, those that have the gold make the rules.

The fact is and remains, the foundation of American progress and prosperity was laid under American Labor Unions. When that ole 1930 ditty was laid down, what side are you on, what side are you on, in Harlan county, there are no neutrals there, you are either a Union man or a thug for J.H Blair.

Sadly, as Unions gained prosperity, they forgot the power of solidarity, and to some extent Wisconsin may help Unions regain that memory.

The American economy is sick from the power of the golden rule, only a few very rich are gaining at the expense of everyone else. Even the semi rich are falling behind, as Wisconsin, thanks to Kosh brothers donations seek to balance a falling tide in the American economy, by trying to blame only the Wisconsin government worker.

To some extent, another Republirat Pete Wilson genius move on the California scale.

I predict a come back of the American Union movement.

State government is an employer, but it's a public employer that serves the people. You should beware any government censorship, we're not talking a private company.

If the WI Administration's explanation turns out to be correct (universal policy of blocking new websites for a short time pending review) I agree it is a nonissue. Otherwise it is extremely disturbing that any government in the USA would censor for political speech.

Publicly funded or not, it a managed service which the providers can manage however they want. They can block porn, job websites, or whatever else they want.

It's not a free speech issue unless they are blocking the speaking party.

Proxy servers normally default to block sites that aren't categorized yet. This is standard procedure and normal operation of them. Otherwise you can bring up a porn site that isn't categorized as porn yet and be accessible, eliminating the purpose of the proxy in the first place.

Take off the tinfoil hat and learn how the technology works.
