Is it just me, or is the whole wide open style of play, a little played out? Sure it's fun to mess around in GTA for a little while, doing whatever you want... running over people, going on rampages... but to me, there's really only so much you can do with that style play and after a while it just gets boring. I like a story that impells you to continue on it and leads you a certain direction. When I got GTA: Vice City, it was just GTA3 in Miami. It just completely turned me off to the next one, GTA: San Andreas. I really have NO interest in it at all. With Jak 2, while the game itself was sound, I just couldnt stand that they made the main world a GTA clone... turned me off from it

Anyone else feel the same way?

I never finished GTA 3,it was a bit simple IMO, and running people over with your car was never the same since carmageddon. A friend of mine had this old lady stuck under the hubcap beating the car with her walking stick

I much prefer a strong story but multiple play styles and solutions, like in Fallout 1 - 2 or what I'm playing now, the Urban Chaos user mod for Jagged Alliance 2.

In Fallout 1, there were three distinct ways to defeat The Master (stealth, intellect, force) and for the force option there were melee, sniper, and "big guns" styles of attack.

I dunno I kinda really like this...
It definatly kept my intrest longer than a game that has a set path to follow and nothing else.

I will not be buying the new GTA though... sorry I cannot get into East LA Gang lifestyle...
Now the scarface story line of GTA VC was pretty fun... more so for all the 80s refernces that I grew up with...

San Andreas looks to be not a story I want to put myself into...
there is nothing glamourous about the gang scene...

I completely agree, having multiple options to complete an objective is a definate plus.

Yeah I don't like all the "GTA clones" it makes the game fun and last longer, but there is too much of a good thing. I agree that the GTA:SA storyline doesn't look as nice as the Vice City one but it still looks fun with such a big city and the countryside, etc.

GTA leads you along a storyline. If you didn't follow it, that's your choice.

Mafia has a similar style, as does True Crime. You can quickly finish the game following the story line, and you ALSO have the freedom to do what you want if you tire of following the story and need a distraction.

I like the GTA games I still spend time messing around with them even though I beat them a long time ago. I don't like all the games trying to be like GTA especially when they are definately not as good.

There is a story and it's up to you in what order you want to follow it or you can just do anything else you want to. I will be getting GTA:SA, looks really exciting, huge map, countryside, Vegas like area, swimming finally, .....
