Hey all,

I am looking for a $200 LCD Widescreen Monitor for my new build. I'm going to use it mainly for work, but ocassionally for games and watching movies. I have a GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB, so I know it can handle a pretty good resolution.

I've already been looking at several. It seems that for my price range, I'm limited to 19 or 20in monitors, which is fine. I know the 20in monitor can handle the higher resolution and so I guess I'd like to know if you guys think it's worth it.

Additionally, I know about S-IPS and TN, but for my price range, there's no way, as far as I know, I can afford an S-IPS monitor unless I buy one refurbished or used from ebay. Therefore, so far I think I'm limited to the cheaper TN tech.

Someone had recommended this monitor:
SCEPTRE X9WG-NagaV Black 19" 8ms DVI Widescreen HD Ready LCD Monitor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112002

But I had read some not so great things about the quality of Sceptre monitors.

I had looked at the Samsung 940BW at Best Buy, but the colors looked a bit dull, probably due to its lower contrast ratio (500:1)
Here's the link of the 941BW.

Finally, I had heard really good things about BenQ and saw what looked like some pretty good 19 and 20in monitors at a good price. Do you have an opinion on these?

BenQ FP202W Black 20.1" 8ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

BenQ FP92W Silver-Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

I had also seen some Viewsonic ones too that had similar specs. They all seem pretty comparable, so I guess I wanted to know if you guys had any other suggestions.

Thanks!

I just bought this one in store at Circuit City. I like it, it's definitely a step up from the 15" CRT that I was using. I don't know if it's a really "good" monitor as I don't know too much about monitors, but it's plenty for me.

The only thing I see the Samsung is lacking that the Gateway has is HD capability. I don't remember seeing the Samsung in-store, but it may have been there. I liked the Gateway just for the HD capability, and I figured six milliseconds of difference in response time wouldn't be noticeable. Like I said earlier, I don't really know a whole lot about monitors, so don't make a decision based on me. Wait for some of the smarter people here to put their two cents in. I'm just letting you know how I like the monitor I have.

The specs on that monitor are crazy. This is one of the newer Samsung's that they had at CES.

I know that Samsung reports their response times as gray to gray instead of black to white (black to white is what is considered the real response time measurement?)

Looks like a hecka nice monitor though.

I'm just letting you know how I like the monitor I have.

When buying something as subjective as a monitor (everyone's eyesight is different) observations such as yours 02ranger are worth their weight in gold.

I love it love it love it.

I would recommend this one too if you can afford it, as i know plenty who are happy with it, i know I would too...however...

Is there ANYWHERE to buy this monitor for even close to this price besides NewEgg? I cannot deal with that dead pixel policy. 1 dead pixel is too many and if it has to be 8 to return it, I cant take a $260+ risk. Any information is helpful

The only price I've seen CLOSE to what newegg has it for is at geeks.com REFURBISHED.
I don't know why newegg is giving these things away.
But so far, nobody has reported ANY dead pixels on this monitor.
I have not one.
