Wierd Logitech Mouse problem after switching to WinME

I actually don't mind WinME but this one problem can be a pretty compelling reason for me to switch back to Win98SE if I don't find a fix for it.

I have a Logitech cordless Mouseman Wheel and it was running extremely fine in Quake2 under Win98SE with the 8.62 drivers that were on the CD that I had received. On upgrading to WinME and on the first startup, the mouse drivers had "changed" to the Microsoft drivers. So I installed the 8.62 drivers once again and the installation went fine. But now when I play any of my games like Quake 2 or Counter Strike and try to make quick 180 degree turns to look behind, it moves slightly and then returns back to the initial position (basically does something like a 360 degree turn instead!). I tried removing the drivers and installing them once again but it was of no use.

If anbody has experienced any similar problems, please help me out here. Thanks!

I have encountered the same problem while plaing Ultima IX. So I installed the Logitech MouseWare 9.00.99 and it solved my problem. I don't know if MouseWare 9.00.99 can be used with your cordless mouse.

Thanks for the post Tseng. I was worried about installing the 9.00.99 drivers about 2 weeks ago, I formatted my PC and installed Win98SE on it and after installing these drivers, when I played any of the games, my mouse would behave like it were going into a spin every 2 minutes or so! LOL ... One second, I'd be looking straight, the next, I would lose complete control and would then be facing upwards. By the time I got myself into action, I would see a rocket in my face So, I reformatted again and installed the 8.62 drivers.

I'm gonna go install the latest drivers and see what happens.

No ... I upgraded to the full version of WinME (thanks to godabuzz.com and this forum ) I actually have pretty much the same hardware setup as you except for mobo being KA7 and vid card being Asus V6800!

Edit:
I installed the latest drivers but it still didn't rectify the problem It's just funny how the mouse is reacting to my making a slight quick turn in any of the games (worked fine before). Looks like I might have to format again and install everthing "clean". Maybe a fresh install might fix everything. Hate to go through the pain of doing it

I have the cordless desktop and same problem with the mouse. It only happens if I move it too fast, it jumps back instead of the direction I was going in. Very annoying, and probably not fixable until mouse drivers specifically coded for win me and this mouse come out unfortunately. I will keep trying different things to see if I can find a workaround.

So far I've tried the mouseware 9.00.99 drivers and ps2rate at different clock speeds to no avail.

Yup element, I have the cordless Desktop as well (sorry I didnt mention this before as I felt the mouse was more like the problem creator here or rather WinME is ). Exactly the same thing happens to my mouse as well and I am going to be formatting my computer after I have written this message cos I am also unable to get my HP printer to work whatever I do (this was fukked up by something stupid that I did in 98SE actually). Well, I'm gonna go ahead and kill two birds with one stone ... might use WinME when a proper set of drivers come out for the OS during the 4th quarter of the year.

I sort of fixed it just now. I say sort of cause its not 100%. I turned off pointer acceleration in windows, and cranked up the sensitivity to 5 in UT (I play Unreal Tournament and not Q3). Well this has fixed the problem in UT completely. And it is much improved in windows because now I have to really zip across the screen extremely fast to get it to screw up again. BTW the pointer speed is cranked all the way up, just acceleration is turned off.

I can now turn in unreal tourney as fast as I want with no problems. I don't know if you have that option available in Q3, but if you do, I suggest you try it. Also I switched back to window's standard ps/2 mouse driver. Ps2rate is set to 200hz, tho I don't think that affected anything much. Good Luck.

Cool ... thanks for the update but I ended up reverting back to Win98SE. I dont mind waiting for better driver support sometime later.

Has anyone with this mouse problem found a good solution. I don't have another mouse to try. Have any of you had the same problem with other mice beside logitech mice? In the system information what does it say under mouse?

I found a partial solution. I installed the 8.3 drivers after I uninstalled the new version 9 drivers and the mouse can move faster now without the problem.

I found a better solution. Install the Version 9 drivers. When I do this the mouse doesn't function in normal mode so I have to boot into safe mode. Then install the 8.32 update over the version 9 drivers. Overwrite the newer version 9 files when asked. This did the trick.

My Mouseman Wheel does not work correctly in either 9.0 or 8.32. It's odd, I updated the drivers to use the default "Microsoft Intellimouse" and it's working fine. The thumb button does not work though.

What if one doesn't care about ps2 rate?

I'm using Windows 98 drivers with my Logitech TrackMan Marble+ and find them satisfying (no problem scrolling or panning). I assume that using the ME drivers should also be problem free if I upgrade my OS.
