Wife had Eye Surgery today

We had a good amount of $$$$$ left in our flexible spending account and it is a USE IT OR LOOSE it plan. Michelle had always wanted to get LASIK done, because she has worn glasses since age 4. Well, we went in yesterday for the consult, and he said she was a great candidate.

So she had 1 eye done this time, and will have the other done in Feb. The procedure is pretty COOL. the actual prep time takes longer then the actual procedure. What got me was when the DR peeled back the flap of the cornea and then patted it all down with gauze. the nurse there sttod behind me and explained everything.

She is so excited about waking up in the morning and being able to see. She tells me that she would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of having it done.

THat's awesome. How much did you procedure cost you? My GF has been wanting to do that for forever.

$1590 for the 1 eye. but the next time we will probaly pay a bit more because she has a catarat in the left eye. that is the main reason we are having to wait.

Man, I've been through hell medically...my neck is full of titanium, and I've had chest surgery wide awake....but I CANNOT deal with eyes.

My sister got it done, and it worked great for her. I'd like to have it done one day, but contacts are cool for now.

wow thats alot, the cheapeast i've seen it is $300 an eye, but I guess i would want the best when dealing with such a vital part of the body.

That is a LOT for LASIK. Here in Toronto it's $600 per eye... let me find a link.

This guy is really good. And since it is her eyes, I did not want some body who had just started doing this to be messing with her eyes. This guy has quite a few years under his belt doing eye surgeries.

Yeah, I wouldn't try and save money on my eyes if I had the choice

I'd love to have that done when i'm in my early 30's. I just think the prodecure is fairly new, and I myself wouldn't want to screw my eyes up because of some freak accident!!! (but being bitten by a radioactive spider would be ok)

the actual firing of the laser is less than 20 secs for the whole process, the prep takes longer than the procedure.

Problem is sometimes the results aren't as good as expected so instead of 20/20 you might get something lower. And once you've gotten Lassix you can't wear contacts.

i got my lasiks both eyes about 3-4yrs ago.

At the time my finger got crushed they did a local and I watched it all. Very cool, strange, and sickening, all at the same time.

did they cut to cornea with a keratome or a laser?

not sure how hey cut it, they used some sort of stainless steel device on her eye, then the laser took over.

yup thats a keratome. the latest thing is to cut the cornea using a laser....so the whole procedure is laser based.

nope, she had to have me there to drive her home.
