wife says: Antec is ugly - any other suggestions?

Since my wife is being generous enough to let me build a new machine, I've listened to her input on one of the only issues she seems to be concerned with regarding the new machine - how it looks. When I showed her an Antec SX830, she didn't like the way it looks. Thus, I'm looking for suggestions on what would be a nice looking case (something simple preferably). Can anyone assist me with this? The case will be housing an AMD 1800+. I won't be doing any overclocking on it for a while (and possibly never), so no need for radical cooling... just something that works and looks nice.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, beornling

Alot of us use the Enlight 7237 w/340Wpsu, fairly inexpensive, side panels, front intake fan included, 4-5.25" bays, 2-3.5" bays + 1 hidden. I've used them for at least 10 comps this year, no problem or defects.

Ya know, I can never understand this about women. Who cares how it looks as long it performs. I asked my wife this too one time. Said the case I was planning on buying was too "ugly". I asked her "Well, what do you want then"? She then said she wanted something pretty like that "pretty little green one" (she pointed at a MAC).

I worked out with the meanest, baddest looking, black case I could find.

Here's a suggestion: show her the price tag on a Lian-Li case with similar specs as an Antec - full tower, AND power supply. She'll like the Antec a lot quicker than you might think.

The Enlight 7237 is a good case (IMHO) or the Lian Li series. If you opt for the Lian-Li just don't tell the wife how much they cost.

Your wife is right--the Antec is ugly. But it really works (I have 3 of them). You might let her know that the case is quiet (because its ugly front allows for a lot of air flow without too much obstruction) and also that your parts will last longer because the stuff inside will be cooler.

Here a pic of the case I got for my dual Xeon rig. Its a truly beautiful and a tad bit expensive so tell your wife beauty doesn't come cheap, women understand that

Antec SX1030 or SX1040, best case ever made IMO, inside and out.

I have a black SX1040B.

vancenase,

I am referring to the EN-7237AZ, this has the 340w supply and can handle the higher speed Althlon XPs.

Hhmmm....

Ask her about this case- it's actually the same basic box as an Antec sx1030, with a different front bezel and 300w HEC PSU. At least that's the psu they were using a few months ago....

Here

The sx-Antecs are made by Chenming. The same basic boxes are trimmed out differently and marketed as Uneec, Chieftec, Enermax and some others, I'm sure....

Your wife is generous enough? Do you not have job or something? Are you a mail-order husband?
Regardless of my disgust with your lack of command, I would recommend a product from Nikao. Specifically, the Nikao Noblesse is great looking case, and it's highly functional as well. It can be purchased from Color Cases.

Daovonnaex,

I really hope you were kidding about your "disgust with [my] lack of command" and the other comments you made.

As for everyone else, thanks for all the information about cases. This weekend I plan on deciding and finally ordering it, so if there are any last opinions, let me know.

Thanks.

I recommend Cooler Master ATC-210 (verdant), arguably the most beautiful PC case. Any other models of Cooler Master are also not ugly, at least. I'm sure your wife will love ATC-210 (verdant), if she likes a green iMac. Let me add also that a Cooler Master case generally seems to be made of slightly thicker aluminium sheets than Lian-li, thus less vulnerable to vibration.

Lian-li may be acceptable, though some could still find it ugly. At any rate, it's not in the same league with ATC-210, as far as appearance is concerned.

Enlight could look uglier than Antec to some, I'm afraid. Personally, I prefer Antec to Englight even in terms of appearance.
