Not sure with a laptop, but whenever ive had any electrical device get wet, i take the whole thing apart to let the components dry out. Usually after 3 days, i put it back togeather and it works fine.

I think the rule of thumb though it that you cannot whatsoever try to turn it on, it does something when it trys to power up.

If it was attempted to turn on after, or was on when it got wet, it likely shorted out any number of different components. I do dell warranty calls and can tell you that $500-600 is about right.

Unisys engineer travel between $80 - 280 (from to 30 miles to 180 miles) (flat fees are given from a distance table, anything over 180 miles round trip is billed by the hour at $125/hr.)

Service call fee for up to 1 1/2 hr service (minimum standard fee) $125

Motherboard + shipping next day via DHL $150-250 (depending on current rates for the laptop motherboards.

Your best bet is to try and find a motherboard on e-gay if you are technically adept enough to repair it yourself. (takes a fairly steady hand and good eyesight) If not, it's time to wish you had bought the complete care option and pony up for a repair or buy another laptop.

And to add to the above post-- put the wife to work for a month or so. That should make the expenditure easier to swallow.

Not to flame on dell, but what a ripoff. This is like going to the service center at best buy and having them charge 75 bucks to put Ram in a desktop, which takes all of 2 minutes. $125 dollars and hour is ridiculous. MOst likely those numbers are inflated so they almost force you to buy there "complete care" (take your wallet for a long walk off a short pier) package

Chances are, you could've bought your entire system for half the price elsewhere and then when wifey did this replaced the whole thing for less than what dell will charge you now.

As for fixing your PC, yeah I wouldn;t have turned it on. Water is a conductor and you likely shorted some components when you turned on the PSU. Fried Mobo is highly likely

Geez, and you're still in the same house? I would bail asap, who knows what she's doing to your food.
