She's not going to "cut me off"...I was being sarcastic. But you know how women are when they feel strongly against something and you ignore her feelings. Anyway, I just got back from test driving the Sebring again, and there's not much NOT to like:

1) It takes regular gas (saving me a good $10-$20 a week over the premium gas guzzling WRX)
2) I can actually stretch out when driving.
3) It's 200HP V6 is pretty peppy...not 0-60 in 5.5 seconds peppy, but peppy
4) The handling is amazing...I'd compare it to a BMW 5 series in cornering
5) It takes me 30 seconds to put a car seat in the back....took a good 10 minutes of contortion acts in the WRX.
6) The car is useable because it has storage space (the trunk is huge!).
7) Convertibles are cool

So, I'm not seeing to many bad things about this Again, the main concern here isn't "My wife doesn't want me to have a fast car", her main concern was having such a tiny car to lug the kids around in. The fact that it'll do 135 MPH was the straw the broke the camel's back

The WRX isn't tiny... it's actually quite roomy and large by my standards. It could easily seat 4 large adults and would certainly have no problem with two children in the back. The trunk is easily large enough to hold quite a bit of luggage as well.

I just love this: "But you know how women are when they feel strongly against something and you ignore her feelings."
No, I don't know, what the hell about your feelings? You've never actually discussed them. So, let's clear all this bullsh!t, ok? Do you want to get rid of the WRX yourself and are just using the wife as an excuse? NO, you said "I've had my WRX for about 8 months now, man I love that car." Sounds like you really want to keep it to me.
Do you know that you will lose no less than $7 grand just trading in the WRX. How much did you put down when you bought it? How much are the monthly payments? Gonna be 8 very expensive months here. How many extremely expensive miles? Add all that up. Dude, you're gonna lose a freakin' bundle trading in that WRX. Does the wife realize this?
Reading your posts, you are so whipped it is amazing. My long-time GF (lived together 5 years, 2 more here in Oregon and we're common-law) is a very strong woman, but she would never force me to do something like this if I was against it. And she would never issue any type of ultimatum. I understand this very well, some women like to use ultimatums, they foolishly think it is their prerogative as a woman to be able to demand from men. "Do this or I'll leave you." That's when you leave, man, because it means they don't love you. Love means that you place another's feelings before your own. Sounds like you would do that for her but she would never do that for you. That is very bad, an extremely unhealthy relationship. Don't laugh this off. If, deep down in your heart you like the car or you don't want to lose a lot of money by selling it now, then try this, go to her and explain that you want to keep the car. Explain how you are a safe driver, how it is roomy enough for the kids, how she can buy the minivan if she wants it, and how much it will cost if you trade it in (I calculate loss in excess of $10K for one year and I work in finance, btw). Be calm, reasonable, and firm. Don't raise your voice at any time. If she flips out and throws a childish temper tantrum, if she won't hear you and she threatens to leave you... then you need to realize just what a mistake you have made with your life by being with this uncaring person.
I speak from personal experience. Good luck.

You're going to replace your car because your wife told you to? That is messed up. My wife kept trying to control my life and tell me what I should and should not do... now she's my ex. Being married doesn't mean you should bow down to the demands of your spouse. Get a spine and keep the car.

Wow, I've rarely seem someone change their minds so quickly.

At first, Fritzo was bitching about his wife making him get rid of his prized WRX. Now, he seems to be DEFENDING his wife's decision!

I can only think of two reasons for this:

1) After taking some test drives, you decided that she's right... OR
2) Your wife saw this thread, and now she's threatening to take away your computer for DARING to question her authority to your online buddies.

Personally, I'm voting for option 2. Tell the 'ol slave-driver that Anandtech says hi!

Uh.........give me a break. Face it, the real reason she doesn't like it is because she thought it was fast. Tell her this, you'll trade in your WRX sedan for a WRX wagon. Same power, and it's more practical. My money is on she'll still want you to get another car.

Why isn't it practical because it's a convertible? It's got plenty of room, it's safer, it's cheaper, and the top comes down for those cool summer nights. Speed of my present car isn't the whole problem. Again, she's concerned that I'm hauling the kids around in a tiny death trap. And if it makes any of you feel better, I told her about this forum and she told me to tell all of you that when the kids get out of grade school, I can get a Vette if I want to, so there

Uhh...it's option 1, as I stated before already. The WRX is practically usless if you have a family, and the couple of cars I test drove were great! I don't feel so bad about it now and I'll get another sports car later.

If I'm a good boy she lets me drive her car

Now, if I got a Z28, I'd have to get a mullet and move into a moble home. Too much work

2) Buy a new car, make her happy, have peace, be able to read the Sunday paper undisturbed, and get some 3-4 times a week.

What's your choice?
I'm married and I would have my car and my sex. My wife is smart enough to know she doesn't influence my car, my football, or my time out with friends. Oh, she has tried, but some things in life I don't compromise, not even for my wife. In conciliation, I respect and support the things that she needs. The only thing she gets on my ass about is too much computer time and she's right; left to my own devices, I will spend too much time on the computer.

Yeah...I give you two 3 years before you're off to a counselor.
Well, you'd be wrong. We're 7 years married and it's been like this from day one. Like I said, there are certain things that my wife has to accept from me and likewise I do the same for her. I wouldn't be married in the first place if I felt I had to compromise on everything. Marriage is about friendship, partnership and mutual respect; not a mind-meld.

If I was you, I'd go cheat. If she chose to be manipulative, I don't have a problem with that.

3. Don't let your woman manipulate you into making it the way she wants it.

Yes, I do love the car, but it's a guilty pleasure. The car is useless because it's so small (you've obviously never been in one...the back seat has leg room for two three year olds and the trunk only holds two suit cases if you're lucky). I've already got a buyer willing to pay me $500 less than what I bought it for (the sedans are hard to come by.....supply and demand...it only has 4000 miles on it), so I'm not losing jack. The car takes premium gas, and an around $2.00/gallon, it's $$$$$$ to run. I'd like to keep the car, and I'll have one again (or something better)...just not at this time. My car payments are going to be $100 less a month, I like the new car I'm getting, and everything works out better with the new car. I'm not a 21 yr old hot rodder than needs to peel out at red lights and race every car I see anymore. So, I guess the lesson I learned here is that sometimes your wife can actually be right! Everything's cool now, so no hassle.

christ some of you guys need to lighten up. i know it might not sound like an ideal situation but really, if hes ok with it you dont need to tell him his nuts are in his wifes purse. personally if i had a wife i would tell her to f*** off, but its his decision. A Wrx is awesome but it really isnt a family car too.

Everything's cool now? Yea right, you do everything she says. She owns you, and you are her property. You are whipped. At least your not losing money on the car but who would be stupid enough to pay so much I have no clue.

O well your decision was already made and I hope you enjoy your new car.

i don't have any problems with your decision. but i don't like the title of this thread. if someone said to me, my wife is making me sell my car i'd respond, your pwhipped too. mb change title, your wife is suggesting that you sell your car and that you happen to agree.

Go to your dealer and try to find one. Subaru has shipped all of their 2002 models. I've seen them going for $30000 on lots because they're so hard to get a hold of. There's a few of the wagons left though.

OK, now I just think that his wife is posting FOR him. The REAL Fritzo is probably locked in a closet somewhere, begging his wife for forgiveness! Make sure to click the "logout" button next time, Fritzo!

Anyway, Fritzo's wife, please let me know what your offering price is for your husband's WRX! If it's loaded, I'm willing to make an offer!

I mean, COME ON! No human being with any self-respect for themselves can a have a total change of opinion this quickly!

That's why I'm such a highly sought after guy....I actually consider other people's ideas instead of dismissing them because it's not what I'm thinking.

Tell her its all relative, like the fact she took it up to 105mph while thinking it was mere cruising speed only means the WRX is as safe at 105mph as the minivan is at 65mph. Also, most accidents involves inattentative driving where vehicle handling/driver skill plays a large part, not ONLY crash safety ratings.

Plenty of room? Cargo capacity for a sebring is the same as a WRX sedan, much less than a WRX wagon. Interior room is slightly larger than a sedan, less than a WRX wagon.

Safer? The Impreza (all Subaru's actually) was one of the highest rated cars in offset crash testing. The Sebring? Average rating. Rollover? A hardtop wins obviously over a convertible.

So which one was the tiny death trap?

It's all good if you want to get another car, but the reasoning just doesn't match up.
