I got my new eee 900 in yesterday, it looks great. I plug it into my network and get it all setup with everything and figure I'm done, time to set up wifi and kick back on the couch. I have an older 802.11b linksys router (serving my wii and wireless print server) running 128 bit wep. I plug in my wep key and expect love but get none. It can't get an ip address. I reenter the key a couple times, even remove the atheros client, reinstall the drivers, restart the router, etc and still no IP.
I log into my router though and see that it is assinging the eee an ip. How strange. I decide to manually assign the eee an ip. I can ping other clients on my network (1-2ms latency) and google news will even load without images...in like 10 minutes. Any suggestions on what seems to be causing this slow down?
This is a fresh install of xp sp2 thats been put through nlite, very light on the removals, updated with sp3 and then the newest atheros drivers from the asus site.
I found the newest driver on atheros' site and installed that. Perhaps the slightest speed gain, it now realizes that it got an ip by dhcp now and then, but still not even loading webpages without minutes of wait. Disabled wep, still unchanged. If I look at the advanced statistics in the atheros utility it shows me something like 180 frames received ok and 7000 with crc errors.
Any suggestions as to what my problem might be? There aren't any other AP's in range, I'm not in an apartment packed with people and other deviced, my other wireless devices work fine, dhcp and everything on the lan interface was fine....
