It took a while for us to pick up the things from Mwave.. but now that its setup.. I am sharing my net connection with Alethia (my bro's gf - well I am not sure of that as of yet) and the rest of the building. I got a broadband router (linksys) and a Netgear wifi card. The reason we got the broadband router was so we could isolate the internal wired network (192.168.0.1) from the wireless(192.168.1.1) one and yet still give people access to the web. It was done this way because i want to protect my file sharing from being shown to the local wireless users..

Question is should i start charging 2 bucks a month for wifi access???? Ofcourse as long as they dont bog down our wired network I am fine with it..

Right now I am digging this setup.. this is so cool.. I am sitting by the pool drinking some stuff and enjoying ATOT without any connections to teh web...

Next up.. neffing from the Toilet Bowl... .bwahahahaha...

Peace

sure if they are getting free internet why not, I wouldnt complane its much cheaper than an internet connection + the WiFi hardware. If they all play game it may bog down your broadband connection thou.

Why separate the pool and the toilet?

Are you just allowing anyone within range to access the wap? Do you have WEP enabled? If so, how do you distribute the keys? Did you leave the SSID as default? Are you using an antenna in addition to the one on the wap?

Btw, I have the Netgear wifi card as well.

Right now I am allowing anyone in within range of the WAP..and I dont have WEP enabled.. I will enable WEP tommorow after reading the manual. As for distributing keys right now only 2 Wifi cards are known.. ours and Alethia's Airport card (she has a Mac). The SSID is default but will be changed to Deep Purple (we name our linux box and firewalls after rock bands). The antenna is teh standard stuff that comes with the router.. its got 2 antannes.. and its in default mode.. I will probably change it to dispersed mode later (after reading the manual).

I have a question about these setups. What happens if someone on your "network" does something illegal? Kiddie porn, hacking, some kind of scam, will authorities/isp think the owner of the setup did it?

I have logging turned on.. so I can keep track of NIC's on the WiFI network.. Alethia and us arent going to do that.. so if anybody does I will have that card logged into the system.

Enable WEP and/or MAC filtering quickly, before someone starts using your connection for nefarious purposes.
